Drinking while eating

Recommended Posts

you all are lucky. my dr. reccomends no drinking for 2 hrs after eating. he explained that it takes 2-3 hrs for the food to digest, and this is for optimum results with staying full between meals. i thought this would be a huge problem because i drink so much, but its not that bad. drinking too soon is bad if your willpower isnt so great and you may be tempted to eat before next meal.

All doctors are different but you really need to adhere to the rules of yours. Mine is no drinking 30 mins before or after meals. I really do believe that drinking with meals makes the food go through faster, which defeats the purpose of the band. It seems difficult to get used to at first (just like all of my doc's other rules, which include no straws, no gum, no soda), but it quickly becomes a way of life. I have taken a sip of Water when eating something too spicy but that's it.

It isn't really a sacrifice when you're seeing how your diligence and hard work can pay off. Yes, we all slip up at times and different things work for different people. But this is a lifestyle change and in order to see results, you have to follow through. Just my two cents. Good luck. :D

My Dr. also says to wait 1 hour after eating and suck on ice cubes if thirsty (Dr. Ortiz too). Although his nutritionist also told me that if I need a sip of Water or something (hot food, coughing, etc..) that I could do that, but not everyday. She also said that if I'm out at a restaurant and want to sip wine or a drink with dinner that would be fine too...just not all of the time.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
