(Girl Question) Has anyone "started" the day before surgery??

Recommended Posts

Hi there... I always have my period at the most inopportune time, so yes, when I had surgery, I was on my period. I usually use tampons, but had to resort to pads, since it was going to be much easier. I did find however, that the normal pain associate with my period was not an issue, since I had the other issues that having surgery brought. Don't worry much about it, but mention it during pre-op. GOOD LUCK!

and congrats to you... its the best, most caring thing I have ever done for myself, and I am sure you will find it is for you too. Let me know how you are afterward! We are about the same age, and had about the same amount to go. My surgery and recovery is fresh in my mind. We could be buddies if you need any?

LOL...Nice!

Well I just talked to the hospital and they said it was fine! It's not my dream situation but, I'm not going to cancel because of it. The nurse says it happens alot, probably because of nerves.

Kira I would love to be buddy's!

I started the day after my surgery while still in the hospital. The nurse says it happens alot. Minor inconvience since I was in another city and had no transportation to pick up pads and bring back to my hotel. My mom had to take a cab to walgreens.

I usually miss mine alot... For some reason I ended up getting it 6 days before op. Figured it was because of stress..... Was done two days before surgery, thank God! Surgery went well and feeling almost completely back to normal! Good luck, you go girl! Git R Done!!!

This happens to a lot of girls. My surgery is sometime in November so I dunno if that will happen or not.

I wish you luck on your surgery though.:D

I'm sure your monthly vistor will be the last thing on your mind while in the hosptial..Good news for me is, I don't have to worry about that anymore.

I was banded on the 29th and sure enough the day before I got my little friend. The clinic had already advised me if I had my period to wear comfy undies and a pad not a tampon - all was good - Aunt Flo was the least of my worries!!!!!!!

Good question. If I may be so bold, did you guys wear granny panties? I mean, they are going to be working on my stomach after all, won't they be in the way? Won't they see the "wings". Heavens, how embarrassing. I'm scheduled to have that "situation" right about the time of my surgery. Any info is appreciated.

I didn't wear granny panties, but I know what you mean about the wings! I had my surgery yesterday, and of course it was that time of the month, but really, once I got in there, I wasn't really concerned about it anymore. I figured the surgeons probably had better things to do than check out my brand of feminine hygiene products. I guess I'll know for sure if they bring it up when I go get my stitches out!!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
