feeling like I'll never reach my goal

Recommended Posts

Hi all! I was banded in March of '05. I lost 7 lbs. pre-op and 6 lbs. the week after surgery. In the last two and a half months I have only lost an additional 12 lbs. I know that sounds like a lot to some people but if I went on Atkins I would lose that in three weeks. I just feel frustrated because I spent so much money on this surgery and I am not seeing the results I thought I would. Am I being greedy? I've had two fills and I am scheduled for my third in June. I feel like I could still eat a lot and pretty much anything I want, except rice.

Please let me know if anyone else feels this way and will it get better after the third fill?

I wanted to find a support group because I can't lose any more than my first 25 pounds - and that's since Dec. 04. I've had two fills and am thinking of having another - Maybe I need to eat rice and scrambled eggs - two of the foods I can't eat. My stress level brings me to the candy drawer at work - instead of the apple or orange - a lifetime of bad habits and choices. I too can't believe I spent this money and can't seem to find the will power to abstain. My email address is cabarbini@austin.rr.com, if you want to reach me. Best of luck - and good wishes. I know how difficult it is. I'd like to think it's my age but know differently.

I feel the same way at times. It has been 6 weeks for me and I have only lost 18 lbs. I read others progress and it seems like they are ahead of the game and I am way behind.

PattyAnn what day in March did you get your band. I was banded March 18th. Sorry you are having so much trouble losing. I hope your next fill will be the one that gives you the restriction you need. Good luck and if you need to talk just pm me okay!

Yep, it's hard for me to get my head out of the sand and see next year. I am almost 8 weeks post-op. I lost 15 pounds in the first 12 days and NOTHING since. No fill yet. I may just be on a small downward trend, but need to see 205 or less for several days before I'll change my sig on the weight loss. My big goal right now is under 200. My hubby is very supportive and encouraging. He sees what I'm eating and sees a big difference from pre-band consumption. One of these days it has GOT to kick in, ya know? Waiting, waiting, oh so patiently, NOT!

I feel the same way! I was banded 3/10, lost 16 pounds in the first month

and then started gaining back. By the time I went for the first fill in May,

I had gained back 5 pounds. Lost 9 pounds in the week after the fill but

scale wise, nothing since. I have stepped up my walking (a full hour a day

and with "some" (ie very little) running mixed in with it. I have noticed that

my legs are toning up even if the scale doesn't show it.

I am trying to follow the bandster diet to the letter now, hoping to make it

to an even 30 pounds by 6/10 (my 3 mo bandiversary) but I don't know if it's

gonna happen...

As for losing more weight quicker on a diet, I probably could ( I lost 60

pounds 2 years ago but found them all again) but I am hoping the band will

keep it off.

Hi, thanks for all the replies. It's nice to know I'm not alone. I guess I thought the band would do a lot more of the work. I am not really trying very hard, I'm not eating the right way, you know, Protein first. Sometimes it's just easier to grab a bagel on the way out the door or have pizza on soccer practice nights. I have three children 4,6, & 7 and don't have much time to make myself a piece of broiled chicken or something like that. I know, I've been using these poor children as an excuse for being fat for seven years, I can't join a gym or go out walking because I have the kids at home. I guess if I really suck it up and stick to a diet and exercise plan I could find the time and I would lose weight. I have to get into the right frame of mind.

Anyway, thanks for the support. Patty Ann

I had my surgery on March 8th, 2005 at Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville, NY

Dr. Dan Davis and Dory Ferrarro,NP

My BMI was only a 38 so I went with a Columbia University Clinical Study for patients who had a BMI under 40

I started at 213 and am now 188, 12 weeks later.

Pattyann,

You have lost an average of 2 lbs a week and that is great! I am on that same average and even though the scale has been stuck a while...I still know that I am on target. Be proud of what you have accomplised so far.

Can I sit up front on this boat of non-losing folks? I bow down and worship my band for allowing me to shed almost 70 pounds. But I have 70-90 more to lose and can't give up my bad habits. Gloomy day for me.

Pattyann, how many fills have you had? Dory is pretty conservative w/her fills. I use her for my U.S. care.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
