first post!...a little story and an important question

hello, you!

i've been reading posts and replies on here for a couple of days and i really like the vibe here! ok, so i was just banded 7/25 and it's going really good. the first day and a half was hell, but it got better. i'm having no problems eating and am already doing ok with mushy stuff, as of yesterday. it actually worries me cause i ate a whole bean burrito (i know, it's not healthy, but the chart said i could have beans! and i've been on mostly liquids for a month now! Protein Shakes 3 weeks pre-op, and Soups and crap for a week post-op.) i definitely got satisfied, almost full, but i was worried that i didn't feel that i had to throw up. of course i chewed the crap out of the already mushy Beans, and i waited after every 2 bites to see if i would get sick. but i didn't. almost no restriction. the doc did say he put a large band on me though. i thought i would never be able to eat this much post-op, EVER. but after reading and reading up on slips, it sounds really painful, so i don't think mine's moved. am i just feeling guilty cause i ate the bean burrito? anyway...:wink2:

So it has been 7 days for you? I think I was eating refried Beans by then with no harm. As you will hear a thousand times, the post op period is for healing not for losing. Your band is planting itself and any big digestion that your stomache has to do could potenitally move the band. This is the hardest period, thus bandster hell. You will not feel restriction because you have none. That will come laer with the fills. I remember being completly consumed with food during that period because I was so hungry. You will get through it, we all do!! You can do it! Good luck!

hahaha.. i did the same thing .. i was so tired of Soup and popsicles and pudding and Jello ... i ate a bean burrito as soon as i could eat mushy foods .. i think i was 10 days post op .. i didn't get sick either .. since the swelling has gone down, i have no restriction really .. i have been relying on pure willpower until my first fill, which is not until 08/11 .. even though everyone says you don't lose until after the first fill, i just can't except that so i have found willpower that i never knew i had. i do stay full longer on smaller amounts of food though .. before being banded, like a lot of people, i used to eat a large meal and 1 hour later i would be looking for a snack... just take it slow eating .. my Protein Drinks are my friend.. i don't really like the taste of them, but they really keep my hunger and cravings down when i manage to get 1 or 2 in a day...

Hey, I was banded yesterday. I saw where you mentioned bandster hell. I am on Protein Shakes and unsweetened/uncarbinated liquids for the next 2 weeks. I was wondering the first few days or so when you drank anything did it make your stomach hurt, like spasms or pains? My doc says it is not abnormal but I was wondering if others had experienced that.

I was banded on 7/25 as well and I went to the doc yesterday for my 1 wk check up. I think they felt bad for me because I have lost 11 lbs since surgery.. I am breastfeeding my baby and basically starving on freakin liquids! So they progressed me early to mushies.. the only problem is I am scared to death to eat much of anything because I dont want to throw up.. I HATE THROWING UP.. I threw up everyday for 7 months with my pregnancy and that is why I ended up with a hiatal hernia repair when I got banded. :wink2:

I was banded Wednesday July 30th, don't be alarmed I'm going through the same thing with some of the pains.

Just keep moving forward, and follow exactly what they tell you as people on here can't stress that enough to me. Soon things will be better, sounds cliche, I just know they are right.

thank you so much jaymie, and everyone else for your encouraging replies! i feel much better now, and can't wait til my first fill. but for now i will live it up on the mushy foods that may not be the best for me. i'm actually really really looking forward to chicken and beef and such. and vegetables. i'm ready to eat healthy as long as i can eat solid!! i know..wait a couple of weeks...but it sounds so good :)

anyway, thanks again everyone.

I also get a stomach ache sometimes shortly after I eat or drink something. I just rest awhile and the feeling passes. then I try a little more. :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
