Surgeons in INDIANAPOLIS

Recommended Posts

Dr. Keith McEwen is great. He has such a good bedside manner and has done more Lap-Bands in Indiana than any other surgeon. The number of surgeries he has performed is what impressed me the most when I was searching for a surgeon, hen once I met him he was so friendly and understanding that it cinched the deal. I would reccommend him to anyone!

The Clarian Bariatric Center is great. I had surgery in December with Dr. Samer Mattar (in fact, I just had a follow up appt with him today!). I don't believe he's doing LBS anymore (just GBS) but there are other doctors on the team who are experienced and knowledgeable. Their dieticians are great as well. They do te surgery at Clarian North in Carmel.

marglikeracin,

I had my surgery done at St. Catherine Regional Hospital with Dr. Shina in Charlestown, Indiana. It's about a 1 1/2 hour drive south of Indy. I first checked into their program because it was the least expensive self pay - $12,500 - that I could find in Indiana. In researching him, I found that he had done over 1800 bariatric surgeries so he's very experienced. I had my surgery on January 29th. The surgery went well, the staff was always helpful and all of the nurses were great. I can't say enough good things about my experiences with them. Make sure you check them out.

The self pay price includes everything related to the surgery (hospital, surgeon, anesthesiologist, nutritionist, psychiatrist, and the first year of fills). The psychiatrist did want her money up front so I paid her at the appt and then they deducted the cost from the total. That was the only up front cost that I had to pay. The balance of the payment was due by the day of the surgery. I had my first fill last Thursday and they do it with a fluoroscope to make sure everything is right before you leave.

The price doesn't include a visit to the cardiologist and the pulmonologist. Even though my insurance didn't cover the surgery, it did cover these visits and I only had to pay my $20 co-pay for each one.

Dr. Shina's program manager can be reached at 1-888-744-4898. He will answer your questions and/or set you up for the seminar. If you decide to go forward with the surgery, the nursing staff will make all of your appointments after that. I don't know if I can post a website on this forum but you can find their website by searching for - Dr. Shina right weigh bariatric center. Hope this info helps.

Dr. Geller in Louisville is even lower than that and has been doing lap-bands for 5 years. He told me he has done 700-800. It is $12,000 even. He is the medical director of the program and it is a center of excellence. The program in Charlestown is very new about a year old I think and is not in excellece center and the Charlestown surgeon just started doing band surgeries a little over a year ago. the 1800 cases that surgeon has done are mostly open gastric bypasses going back 15 years or longer.

Dr. G. includes surgery, band, anesthesia and the adjustments for a year and the preop nutrition and psych eval as well. The only thing not covered is the preop clearance, but your regular doctor can do that.

Give him a call and the short trip will save you a bundle.

his number is 502-893-7151.

Don Selzer, MD, a physician with Clarian Bariatrics, is the first in Indiana to perform a single incision LAP-BAND® System surgery, which results in reduced scarring, less post-operative pain and a recovery time three to four days less than standard adjustable gastric banding procedures.

I was banded by Dr. Keith Mcewen, love, love love him. He is VERY experienced in placing bands and also is a proctor for many surgeons. He and his dietician, Laura are very informative and I would recommend his office to anyone wishing to have the surgery. I have been very fortunate in that I have followed the directions provided by them both and not had any problems, in fact this has has been very easy and I wish I had done this years ago!

Good luck with your decision!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
