recommendation for anyone who is looking for a yummy and easy Protein smoothie -- try starbucks chocolate banana vivanno. it's about 220 calories for 16 oz. if you ask for non-fat milk. 3 grams of fat and 21 grams on protein.

i am not a Protein Drink fan nor a chocolate fan (i know, i'm a freak) but this is just damn tasty. and, as i am lazy, it's nice to know i can run out and pick up one instead of hauling out my blender.

kristen, I had the smoothie as a reward after this morning's yucky angiography I had to have, and you are right, it is quite nice. I want to find out the carb and calorie count because I think my BF would like it. He is on high protein diet also. Thanks!

Vegas,

If you go to Starbucks.com it has the nutritional info. It is with 2% instead of skin, though. But that should be fairly simple to adjust.

I've sampled both flavors and didn't care for either of them. But that's ok. All I want from Starbucks is my Venti Green Shaken Iced Tea with 7 Splendas. I'm going to miss that until I can start adding some caffeine back into my diet. :wink2:

Tonni, I found out the carbs are hysterical, though. I think I'm going to have to try something else...maybe Jamba juice?

I'm going on Optifast too but will pretty much follow what is on the information I was given which is....

Brekkie...Optifast Choc shake or berry bar (I think starting the day with the Soup is bad because that Soup tastes like crap :) )

Mid morn Apple (or other permitted fruit (not banana's)

lunch Optifast choc shake

Mid afternoon.....1 cup vegetables (from the list of ok veggies, IE Low card and green vegies) or a shake or berry bar

dinner Optifast shake and 1 cup vegetables for the list of ok veggies or have both cups of vegies in a soup (made with stock)...

I can have as much diet Jello as I like (but I think I would stop the red before surgery for reasons previously mentioned)

I should drink 2L of Water and/or calorie free liquid and take a multi Vitamin

No carrots, legumes, potato, pumpkin, sweet potato, Tomato sauce, Mayonnaise, tartar sauce, fruit juice, alcohol or vegetable juice...

I could drink tea or coffee but I don't like it!! can have diet soft drink, diet cordial, atrificial sweeteners lollies or gum and all spices and herbs can be used also can have lemon juice, vinegar, worcestershire sauce, soy sauce (in moderation) chilli, mustard, tomato paste

My dietician said if I eat the foods on the don't eat list then it knocks the system out of whack and will make you feel hungrier!

The first 3 days on this diet are generally the worst and then your hunger starts to abate :) and the headaches and general crappy feeling is supposed to go...

Well, I started the 2 week pre-op diet today. My surgeon requires the following:

maximum of 30g of carbs

maximum of 10g of fat

minimum of 70g of Protein

Clear liquids for 24hours before surgery.

I have a feeling I'll be a bit hungry over the next couple of weeks. It's about 1/3 of the 3month diet I did for about 4 months (90g carbs, 25g fat). However, I spent a couple of weeks on vacation with family so I didn't stick to it very well. I'm sure I'll have to go through carbohydrate withdrawal again. Thank goodness for CalorieKing (PC software), it really helps me stay on track.

Good luck to everyone on their pre-op diet!!

My dietician set similar guidelines as dglaesers as far as carb/fat/protein goals. She actually said that those would be the goals for post-op too, so maybe a bigger part of the pre-op is to just start training your mind and to get through the screwups before so that you don't make yourself sick after?

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
