It's awesome to be able to "talk" to everyone on this thread! Is anyone having trouble with the email subscription link back to threads not working? I'm really irritated that my links are only pointing back to the main page. Grrrrr...sometimes it's hard to find other threads that I've posted on so if I want to see replies I just subscribe so that I'll get updates. With it not working, it seems to just defeat the purpose, no? Fortunately, I have this board bookmarked and I lurk on it pretty much all day!

'nuff griping about that...now to gripe about something else! I cannot seem to get in touch with my coordinator! I finished what, I hope, will be my last test on Tuesday, and I just want to find out if she now has all of the reports and stuff (ok, and I secretly want to make a date.) I'm trying to be "nice" and wait until this afternoon before I try to call her again. I don't want to pester her more than once a day....

I tried a new Protein last night. The Syntha-6 chocolate mixed in 8 oz of skim was absolutely fabulous. I don't know what kind of thickener they use, but it was alot less watery textured than some shakes. My hubby tasted (he's a good sport) and said that this one was definitely tolerable. Nice review, huh? Actually, that's a pretty good review from him :)

Off to work...ttyl

Lana - Pester them...I called the coordinator seriously 4 to 5 times per day. Hey its my life and I want to get it moving, they understand. At the end when I would call she would just pick up with a tone in her voice...yes, Elizabeth what can I do for you :). But its all good.

You want to know what is going on and if you need to do anything else!!! Carpe Deim Girl:biggrin2:

I watched that vid on YouTube too. I had a good idea of what was going to be done, but "ick". I see enough fat with my skin on top and looking at it directly was just ewwwwww. Plus, that patient had a BMI of 38 or something, right? I'm like a 49.5 and that's only if I know a few days in advance that I have to be weighed! BUT, I couldn't turn away...it was toooo cool!:)

Seriously thats what I thought too...all that fat. But you know what, I am going to ask my surgeon if he tapes his surgeries and if so I want a copy!!! I want all my friends to see it, but they all wimp out and won't watch it!! :)

I GOT A DATE!

Pending ins approval, which the coordinator nearly laughed at when I asked about it, I'll give it all a go on the 28th. They could have done it the 20th, but that's the week that school starts here at the U so I couldn't do it. Too bad...I'd have loved to get an earlier start. I just BARELY squeaked in to the August group. Woulda been a shame if I hadn't made it, huh?

After some bs with insurance, I'm August now too. My date is Aug. 7 (was supposed to be July 24, grrr), and my dr. will be out-of-network at that point, but as someone said above, enough griping. :)

I had my pre-op yesterday, gave three or four vials of blood, had an EKG, met with the doc's PA, I'm all set. My doctor doesn't really have a pre-op diet, but wants you to lose 10-15 lbs before surgery. I've lost 10 since the first visit so I guess the way to look at the bright side is now I have three weeks to lose another five!

I live in Kirkland, WA, just east of Seattle. Work for Microsoft. Married for five years, together for 12. No kids, thank goodness, just a dog - easier to kennel a dog and go out at night - people tend to disapprove if you do that to a kid! ;)

K, enough prattle. Back to work (and surfing the boards).

Way to go Lana!!!! Do you have to do a preop diet and if so when do you start?

As far as I know I don't have to do one, but I'm supposed to see the doc 6 days before the Sx so I'd imagine he'd have me start one then. I'm going to TRY to do a whole two weeks before though. I think it would be a good way to train my head, you know?

Plus, I'd be horrified if they had to do an "open" because they couldn't get around in there. In fact, I'm not going to approve that as an option when I sign my pre-op papers. If they cannot get it in lap, I'll just have them close me back up.

It's six weeks away, but inside I'm still a little excited

Hi all - I don't know about any of you but I have discovered that I have some really great people in my life through all this.

I work in an office with about 27 women, most of whom I would rate in the 8-10 range on a scale of 1 to 10. Most thin and beautiful!!

Well they have all been really supportive of my choice to have the lapband and today one of the girls has agreed to go through the pro op diet with me!! I can't believe how great they all are. My husband is awesome, all though I know he is nervous about male attention once I am thin, and these friends...I just can't believe it!!

I feel so lucky!!

Granted my pre op diet is 3 protien drinks a day and 1 VERY small meal so at least my friend and I can eat once a day...but she really doesn't need to lose weight, maybe 5 pounds, she is beautiful but so supportive!! :biggrin2:

Hi ladies,

not long before my op, but wanted to jump in with the chat here in the August forum. For those who don't know me, I live in Perth, Western Australia and while my BMI is considered low for a lapband, I have significant family history of diabetes, heart disease and hypertension, and it's why my family dr has suggested lapband surgery for me. My younger brother has recently found out he has severe type 2 diabetes, and this scared me into thinking it's time to change my life.

I've yo-yo dieted for years and have never successfully kept any weight off for good, in fact adding to my weight everytime I stopped dieting. I see the lapband as a tool to help me control my weight once and for all.

I am a mum to 4 kids - 3 teenagers (18,16 and 14) from my 1st marriage and a toddler, who is 2, with my current DH. I also work fulltime and am studying at university part-time.

Just on the aside - I was telling my DH today that if I manage to lose 10 kgs from my top weight, I'm enrolling in rumba/salsa classes as a reward for myself (and for fun exercise)! I'm pretty damned excited about it, esp since I'm over a third of the way to that milestone already since being on the pre-op diet!

I found a dance class already that starts early Sept so that's my short term goal now - I have to achieve a 10kg (22lbs) loss by the 1st of Sept! ;)

A hearty welcome to lellow! Love the colorful duckie...

My hubby and I are members of a social club that is centered around the multiculturalism of Hawai'i. Most members have lived there, come from a family who lived there, or just love hanging out with folks. We all get together about 9 times a year at private homes in the summer and in a rental hall once the weather changes. Being related to the Islands, food is CENTRAL to any gathering. The potlucks are over the top! Funny how it works out whenever I host...I eat nearly nothing! I ate a small sweet while I was fanning away bugs from one of the food tables (we were on the lawn.) After that, I was just too busy talking to eat ;)

All of our friends from the club knew I was doing the research on the lapband so I had some big news to share with them yesterday with my sx now being scheduled. We don't have a get together in August because it's going back to school time, hotter than hell in the South, and it just makes us anticipate our annual lu'au in Sept. even more. This year I will be 2 weeks post-op for that party. I hope to feel ok to at least sit in. Fortunately we will have poi so I'll have something that I will be able to eat since I'll just be starting mushies. It'll be great to have so many supporters on hand for my first huge food challenge!

When I built the roster for our thread I noticed that Claudine was from Raleigh so I PM'd her. Turns out we live within 2 miles of each other!!!

Hey Folks,

Here it is the end of another weekend in July and August is just around the corner. I eat really good this weekend at a friend's house - steak on the grill. Spent today at the pool working on my tan and trying to stay cool becasue it HOT outside:shades_smile:

Lana - Were you born in Hawaii? How cool. I am a NY'er by birth but I have spent most of my adult years in the south.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
