Troublesome Foods?

Recommended Posts

I have had no problem with any food. This worries me. If I can eat bread I will eat it. If you cant, you wont. I was kind of hoping for this. First fill tomorrow. Maybe then I will have more restrition. Not wanting anything crazy. It was just easier the first few weeks.

I know what you mean! I had a fill last week. I had one egg and half a piece of whole wheat toast for Breakfast, not a single problem. not the first time i've had bread either, ugh! now i have to dig deep and go at this another 2 weeks before I can get another fill. great great great =(!

I haven't had any problems at all. It's scary, really scary! I'm still losing, so I'm doin something right!

Don't fret folks: I was the same way after my 1st fill, I could eat anything and more of it than I thought I should.

Then I realized that I had to quit drinking and follow the Band Rules!

That helps some.

BUT!!!!!@ The 2nd fill has really opened my eyes! I have much more trouble eating now!

Everytime I have eaten since that 2nd fill, I have had to stop and wait for about 5-10 minutes to let the food pass. I have also made a mental note not to drink and to be sure to eat my Protein first. I have dropped anothe 3 lbs since my fill!

Keep at it and keep up the good work!

I had my first episode of PBing and sliming this morning over scrambled eggs. They are now OFF my food list! I got them down fine before my first fill, but apparently not now! Very, very interesting experience, that's for sure!

My first time pbing and sliming was also on scrabbled eggs, but I have tried them again even after my 2nd fill and you just have to remember to chew really well before you swallow and take small bites.

I have learned the hard way to remember to chew everything down to a liquid form before swallowing, especially after my 2nd fill, makes me wonder what it's going to be like when I get my 3rd fill in a couple weeks putting me at 6cc in a 8cc band....YIKS! I hope I'll be at my sweet spot when I get this next fill cuz I don't know if I'll be able to get anything past the band without getting stuck for a 4th fill.

I just don't have the restriction that everyone talks about....when will I have that??? I have food getting stuck, but no restriction...WHATS UP WITH THAT???????

Hey Iluvlongnecks - what do you mean by "you get stuff stuck but don't have restrictions"? I thought getting stuff stuck was a restriction. Help! :-)

What I mean is...I have food that is having a problem getting down, but am able to eat as much as I want. I have no restriction as to how much I can take in. I want the restriction of the amount of food I can eat. I know I'm suppose to watch what I eat and I try in so many ways, but I need that full feeling after eating about 1/3 cup of my food like everyone talks about.

I have a comment on how much food you can eat at a time...When I was banded 6/5/08 I would get that full feeling on 1/4 cup food...then 1/2 cup...now 1 cup or 2 even & I'm getting hungry sooner. I had 1 fill & have a 10ml band with 5.75mls in right now. Next fill isn't until 8/15. I'm down 42 lbs since 4 wk liq diet pre-op (which is really great), but I haven't lost any weight in 2 weeks...it's frustrating.

I had my first PB today. It was terrible! And I haven't even had my first fill!!!

My local grocery had their whole turkeys on sale for 49 cents/pound. I bought one and took it to a BBQ place for them to smoke it. I couldn't wait to get it home. When I got home, I tried a bite of dark meat first...that was fine. I then sliced off a very thin slice of turkey breast. Let's just say that it wasn't pretty. I wound up leaning over the kitchen sink. I definitely don't want to go through that again.

Carrie,

I have found I have trouble with turkey also. I purchased some deli sliced meats from Albertson's thinking that would be some nice easy Protein to chew. Both varieties of turkey give me that stuck, painful feeling. I tried the ham and it was fine. I chew, chew, chew, but something about the turkey's texture gives me problems. Now that I know you had trouble with the "real" thing, I'l know to stay away from that!

No PBs here yet! I did overeat majorly one time. Hubby brought home the family value Taco Bell thing.....8 hard tacos and 2 bean burritos. I took one bite of the burrito and could tell I couldn't do that with the flour tortilla. I was enjoying my tacos and one bite into#4 I felt awful! I didn't want to stop but I did. I'm pretty sure I "shoulda, coulda" stopped at taco #2! I told hubby next time 3 tacos, and he replied, "No, let's do 2 and wait 20 minutes to see how you feel." He's so good for me!

Well - I think I have a dilema... I have been sliming after every meal for the past two days.. At first I thought it was because my first drink of the day was a cold glass of Crystal Lite. waited and when I felt better drank some coffee. I have not been able to eat anything other than Soup and Gatorade without major sliming episodes..and it still feels like something is stuck in my Esophogus.. if this does not clear up by tomorrow. vacation over.. I am making a dash to my doctor..........

hi kevinsmom, i've heard that if something seems 'stuck' drinking something acidic - like juice (one emergency room nurse said they actually have you drink meat tenderizer dissolved in Water when someone is stuck at the emergency room! BLECK!) - may help dissolve it and move it along. sorry to hear about your troubles -hope it clears up fast. if you go to the dr. let us know what they say because i'm sure it could happen to any of us! good luck!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
