In reading everyone's responses, I do believe that the lesson is that through this, you really find out who your true friends are. Their true colors are coming out, and they aren't pretty! Let's all work to get more positive people who can be true friends to us.

Good advise, I'm down with that.

I gave up on people and now find joy putting on those pants or shirts I use to not be able to get in to

My own mom doesn't want me to have the surgery! I agree, these people don't want you to change. I lost friends when I got a divorce, I can only imagine what will happen after I get the surgery and start losing weight. True friends will support you.

Like it was mentioned so many times here, this is something you are doing for you. Don't worry about what others say or don't say, do or don't do. In the end, it's your body and your health. We have enough problems with our own insecurities, we have to stay strong. It's the beginning of a new life and if those people aren't going to support you, they never really have. It's all about you. Just keep imagining how great you are going to look and feel! I'm with you though, I don't plan on telling anyone I don't have to.. I won't even tell my mom. It's my decision and I'm happy about it!

Good luck with your banding!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
