Who's Getting Banded in August???

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

August 25 is my big day. I have only one day of liquids before surgery. I was put on 4 shakes and one Healthy Choice meal for 3 weeks to get off of my diabetes meds and insulin and it worked. I also lost 13 lbs. Hope this next week goes fast. It has taken 5 months to get this far so one week should fly by.:mad2:

Peaches,

I was banded on the 4th and would be happy to be your band buddy. Drop me an e-mail at premiern@twcny.rr.com.

I have had a great course so far... down 17 lbs since surgery. Still on Full liquid diet but I get to add some soft stuff on Monday. That will be quite interesting.

I'm feeling great and starting a new couch to 5K program on Tuesday. My goal is to run my first 5K before the snow flies..(I live in one of the snowiest spots in the country) It's a lofty goal but I know I can do it!

I decided on the band as a 33 year old diabetic. So far, I have not been back on any meds and my blood sugars are right where they belong...I am amazed.

Hey, I feel great. No pain, tenderness, etc. I don't even have the gas pains everyone talks about. I am having a hard time today getting in my fluids, where yesterday I did better.

It will be interesting to see the changes in all of us that were banded on the same day. Good Luck to you and I hope you are at ease soon.

Hey Peaches - I was banded on the 15th also. Went to toronto and came back on the 16th. Do I ever feel like a pregnant pup!! I am in more pain today than yesterday - I don't know if it's becaUSEI am more relaxed at home and its starting to hit home. How're you doing Peaches? Able to keep liquids down?

welcome back vegasgirl44! Glad to hear you are doing well.

Do I say this is Day 4 post op or Day 3 post op? Not sure if I count the day of surgery. I had my surgery on August 14.

Anyway, the muscles around my port area are still somewhat sore but so much better than they have been. I still have some gas pains, but I think it's mostly from not being able to go to the bathroom.

I go back to the doctor tomorrow for my post-op visit. I anxious to see what he has to say. I don't even remember him coming in to see me after surgery because I was so out of it.

It is so wonderful to hear all the stories from everyone else. Keep up the good work and good luck to all!

Hey Paula, I think this would be post-op day 3. I feel better today. I'm actually going to shower today. LOL!

One thing though. I have gained 6 lbs since the morning of surgery!!! 4 of that was since yesterday! I'm eating about 60 calories a day, per the plan. I exercised on my treadmill 30 mts yesterday, and I was able to get down about 5 glasses of Water. I am tooting good and have some diarrhea, so I'm wondering how in heck this is happening??!! Anybody else have this happen to them?

vegasgirl44,

What are you able to eat right now? I am still on liquids. I drink 2 Protein Drinks a day, at least 16 oz. of juice, and trying to get down 64 oz. of water, tea, or broth but that is very hard. I haven't weigh since I've been home from surgery. I will do that at the dr office tomorrow when I go for my post-op appointment.

It happens to a lot of us Vegasgirl. It has something to do with the drugs used during surgery and the iv's used. Somewhere I read that your first true weight reading after surgery would be two weeks out. Hang in there, you are doing great.

Thanks, Lindar. I will look forward to stepping on that scale in 2 weeks then.

Paula, can you believe I eat the same thing every day? For Breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I eat 3 tablespoons of Isopure Protein Drink, 3 tablespoons of broth, and 3 tablespoons of Jello. It's like not having anything at all. 59 calories a day. I have to keep this up till at least Wednesday when I go for my postop appt. I am dreaming of having mashed potatoes and I have never eaten mashed potatoes before surgery! Not really a fan!

vegasgirl, me too LOL. I did eat some jello yesterday too. I forgot about that. I need to get myself into the 3 meal schedule. I'm really bad about just eating at random times right now, but once I get back to school I will be on more of a schedule. I think I am getting a lot more calories than you are. My protein drinks have 150 calories per 8 oz. and I'm drink 2 of those a day. I'm not sure how many calories the jello and broth have.

How much other Fluid are you drinking in between meals?

What do you mean am I able to keep liquids down? Are yours coming up? I have not vomitted since right after surgery when I had to drink some stuff and they x-rayed me. I am drinking Protein Shakes, Proteins shots, Water, tea, Vitamin water. I am not doing 3 table spoons of this, 4 tablespoons of that...I am not sure if I need to keep up with everything like that. I don't feel like my instructions were to do that. ?? How are you? I am going to have my husband remove my onQ pump today so i can shower.

Just Water. Trying to drink as much as possible. 8 glasses is my goal, but I only got to 5 yesterday.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
