Hi, all! Long time no post.

I have had QUITE a hectic few months. I think the last time I posted I'd just found out that my landlords weren't going to renew my lease on my apartment (where I'd lived for 3 years)--this happened just about one week post-op. I eventually found a new (and arguably better) place to live and just had to wait for my move in date which very inconveniently fell right at the beginning of midterms in early October (I'm in grad school).

The move was basically a nightmare and long story short, I was without an operational kitchen for the first three weeks I lived here (no fridge, no stove), which left me at the mercy of local takeout places. I actually did fairly well with this--I generally stuck with a local Greek place and had their omelette of the day and stuffed grape leaves (the kind stuffed with ground lamb not rice).

I've only had two fills so far (Sept and Nov--missed Oct because time just slipped away from me) and as of mid-November have only really held steady at my pre/post op diet loss which isn't ideal but it's not a gain (and I was sort of expecting a gain based on the kitchen situation). Oddly, though, while the scale didn't move I started fitting into older, smaller clothes so who knows what that's about. I'm just following the rules as best as I can and I try make smart decisions generally.

I have NO idea how I'm doing weight-wise since the Nov fill, I've decided to not weigh at home. I'll find out next week when I go in for fill #3, but my guess is that this one has been good. I've noticed changes in my body and clothing fit so it's probably good news :rolleyes2:

What else happened? Thanksgiving was a big crazy gathering which necessitated 4 tables to accommodate all the family members (there were other family events happening that week) and then I immediately went into finals. In the middle of finals, I got called in for a job interview and was offered the job the very same day. I started the job about 10 hours after finishing my last exam and have worked there for a week now. Grades started coming in today and I have As in 2 out of my 3 classes and expect an A- at the least from the third.

This job (paid internship really) is only funded for 2 months, but funding may be extended by the incoming Congress (it's a Congressional position) so I may be looking at next semester of full time employment and full time academic study, which will be insane but (hopefully) manageable.

My plan all along for the band was to approach it "slow and steady" and make it just another part of my life rather than a focal point of it which may not be the best approach for a fast success but it's really just the way that makes the most sense for me and my life. Exercise has been happening but without a plan and focus, which I had been planning on spending Christmas Break fixing, but this job came kind of out of nowhere. This weekend I'm going to sit down with a schedule etc and really Iron out a plan of action because what I'm doing now isn't really cutting it.

I DO hope that my efforts start to see a payoff (and that I can really apply myself more consistently in the exercise department) soon.

So that's my life! Sorry for the novel-length post--I've been really busy. I feel like I can finally come up for air and revisit you all!

Congratulations on the job and getting finals over with!!! You are very strong to be able to stay away from the scale. I weigh ALL THE TIME NOW! Jeez. It sounds like you are on the right track. Good luck with your next fill and your job.

I am so descouraged. I can't seem to break the 250 mark. 1 month of ups and downs but no 249. I keep thinking back to when I had gotten down to a size 10 a few years ago and as usual put it back on. I am sure this band will help keep it off when I get down there. Thats what this is all about right? I found that the diet lemon pie is wonderfull. I got the recepe off this site. Really hits the spot when I am craving sweets.

Sounds like you probably need a slight fill. But also take a look at what you are eating, how much, how often, thinks like that. Most of the time ir I need to snack, I do it on veggies: grape tomatoes, carefully chewed baby carrots or green peppers, things like that. They hep me feel full again with minimal damage and maybe some nutritional benefits.

Good luck!

Hi Bubbles:

I was discouraged for a while too, and suddenly broke through the plateau. I am losing pretty steadily but I expect that there will be another stopping place in the future that I will really have to work to defeat. You can do it!!! (It once took me 3 weeks to break a plateau.)

I love love love that jumping jack idea!!

I saw an Arnold S. (not even going to try to spell Swazanager) and he was so physically fit that I was eating a slider food and stopped. Told myself that is what I needed to look like when I am his age. I tried eating shrimp and it all came up. That is when I tried eating the slidder food. Stopped and ate some frozen turkey meal.

Penny - it's great to hear from you. I've often wondered how you've been doing. I like and agree with your slow and steady approach. It's the one I use at the advice of my doctor. He says live your life and let the band do it's job without over focusing on it.

Quitling Bee - how great is that! You've gone down 10 sizes!:w00t::tt1: WTG! Help us stay motivated by posting more frequently. :tongue2:

Bubbles have you worked out at all? That is the only way I started to lose weight. Today I even went out in the freezing cold weather and fast walked and then jogged some for an hour and 15 minutes. I know if I do work out it is going to be a big help. Try it if you haven't been. Another think that I try to do is keep busy. I'm usually in my bed but when I did stuff around the house and made sure I did even if I didn't like it I lost weight. Try it and let me know.

How do you handle when you are depressed and don't want to get out of bed to get busy and not eat as well as you should? It is sooooooooo hard to get me out of bed when some one upsets me.

I guys. I don't post often but I read your notes every couple of days and have really found support with you. I wish I could loose in by butt. I've gone down from a 26 to a 16 pants size but when I look in the mirror I still see my big rear. I've seen it big for 15-20 years so I guess my mind hasn't caught up with my weight loss. :blushing:
First, Thx Ladies for all the congrats. Now Quilting Bee, I laughed when I read your post. I'd gladly take some of your booty, I come from a long line of flat bottom girls:sad: and have always wanted a boofy bottom. and congrats on the weight loss.

Hi Joiful. I was so fatigued after the band, I could hardly get out of bed and it kept getting worse. I was getting nutrition so that wasn't the problem. The tiredness made losing very difficult. A trip to the doctor made all the difference as I found out I was diabetic. Usually I would be embarrassed with a diabetes diagnosis because it is a "fat person" disease, however I found out that when I got on medicine I had energy gradually again and then weight started melting off. Amazing. Hate to suggest the doctor again but if it is tiredness after something stressful, that could be it. It was for me and I had no idea.

I have children and job so not getting out of bed is not an option. But I can certainly relate to feeling so down that I just want to pull the covers over my head. Everyone feels this way occassionally but if this is an ongoing thing, it sounds like you are clinically depressed in which case you might need to see a therapist and may even need some anti-depressants to help you get through this patch. I'd also like to mention that studies indicate exercise over the long term is much more beneficial for boosting seratonin levels than any pharmaceutical so, even though you don't feel like it, if you could start exercising daily, after a couple of weeks, I think you'll see a big boost in your energy and mood (with the added benefits of toning your body).

I hope you feel better soon.

I have been exercising for a month. It is not depression. My bed is comfortable and warm. I can sit here look at my computer and TV. I was working at my business until I had spinal surgery and now my husband is. We are trying to figure out about going back to school and looking into the medical field. Cause I didn't go last semester and take some science courses I have to wait to start a program in Fall 2010. That is just so frickin far away that it just has been so fustrated that I just want to stay in bed. I have even eaten Cookies last several days.

i finally broke my plateau of 250. I made it to 248. It took almost a month but I finally did it. Also I went to a support group a couple days ago. It was horrible! The doctor, nurse and nutritionist could not make it due to the 200 mile travel in bad weather. So they has a local doctor show and he just does the fills. He is new to the area also. Their was only 2 of us that showed up. The other gal was not to encouraging. I don't think I will go to another one of those again.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
