Couch to 5k.....come join me!!

Recommended Posts

For anyone just starting or continuing the c25k all I have to say is to keep moving and it will work! I can't remember when I actually started, maybe end of March or April. I remember back to that first week and thinking I was going to die just running for 60 seconds. I prefer running outside much better to the treadmil. Some days I just ran when I felt comfortable and walked when I had to without following the exact time or distance. I just kept plugging away and now it is almost July and I can run 3.2 miles in averaging 32-35 minutes!

Not only that, but I was searching for some 5k races and came across a sprint triathlon on Sept. 6th. That looked like a fun challenge for me, so in June I signed up to start lap swimming and I also began riding my bike on a regular basis. So now I am either running, biking or swimming, sometimes two in one day! I have always been active, but it's to the point I can't go a day without exercising or I will go crazy.

Just the other day my dd was riding her bike while I was running and I asked her if she can remember when I had to walk most of the route, and she reminded me of last summer when I wasn't even moving! Having lap band surgery for me has truly saved my life, as well as changed me into an exercise nut!

This couch to 5K really does work. I'm living proof of it. BTW I'm not even under 200lbs. yet. (I'm hoping to get there soon!) So don't let that stop you!

I DID IT!

I did day one of couch to 5k without dying!!! I barely made it through last segment of running..but I did it! My heart was beating out of my chest. Now my legs are so sore...but I feel awesome that I did it!

What type of exercises are you doing on your days off of training. Im going to do swimming and biking. I still need to start adding strength training. I get so bored doing that though.

I used the podrunner cd and it helped alot, but we have these cool treadmills at the gym that you can set the touch screen to different speeds that with a touch of a button I can walk at 3.0 and jog at 5.0 (sheesh..they call that jogging?? I felt like my legs were gonna fly off my body at that pace!)

Im curious to know how today went for everyone else!

We are foster parents. We have 2 sons who are 19 months and 9 years old. We have 3 foster kids... a girl who is 4 and boys 8 months and 2 years old. We are fixing to adopt the 8 month old. Love my kids.....

Anyway, I will be running when they are down for nap!!

Couch to 5K is a great program! My friend and I did it several years ago through a running club here in town. Unfortunately because of my weight, my knees were killing me! Hopefully when I get the weight down I can try again!

Bonnie, you are funny. Our 19 month old we adopted. So....we wetnfrom 1 kid to 5 in 1 1/2 years. I must say it was very hard in the beginning, but we have adjusted and the only way I keep my sanity is by keeping routines. Nap time, bed time, etc. DH and I have date night every THursday so we can have some time alone. That is very nice to. They are a handful, but very rewarding.

Thanks whosya! Of our 5 only 1 is a girl. I must say, girls seem much harder than boys. I always thought the opposite would be true, but nope. Seems to be reverse.

I just finished day one. The podrunner really helped. Love the music. Man it feels good to be moving!!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
