Carol... good luck with your run tonight. Thanks for your thoughts.

I'm so glad its Friday. Its been such a busy week at work, and I've started a sideline business in the evening for resume writing. For a few months I didn't even get a nibble, then I got my first client and it was like the flood gates opened and now I'm turning people away! Not like I have a lot of time anyways, but until we claw our way out of debt due to me being off work last summer (yeah it is taking more than a year to recover!!) I've got to bring in extra money somehow. So I've been burning the candle at both ends! But, I've still found time for the kids and my runs. sleep, well that's another story! LOL... my body's getting smaller, but my eyes are getting darker! I'm actually looking forward to my run tonight to clear my head and just get the stress of the week out.

I am having to take the weekend off from running. I have been lifting weights the past couple of week and I think I pulled a muscle between my neck and right shoulder blade. Yesterday I couldn't move my neck and it hurt to even breathe! Today is much better but I'm still in pain. I hope by Monday I can at least run even if I have to hold back on the weight lifting.

Everyone is still doing great!!

Georgia... feel better!

I planned to run last night but got busy and didn't. So when I got up this morning I had my coffee and then set out. My plan was to do 5k, and just around the block from my house I took a fall!

I tripped on the sidewalk seam that was raised. Tried to recover and then knew I was goin' DOWN. Slow motion in my head I thought "Great... I'm going to break something and all my good work is gone!" I landed on my hands, and luckily on the soft tissue of the side of my calf, thigh and upper arm. No bones! So I sat there for a minute and was amazed that I didn't really hurt myself. Then got up, turned off my Nike+ and started to head back home... giving up!

Then I thought to myself, I'm ok, I'm not hurt... get going! So I started my run over and I did almost 6k. I felt really good the whole way. I'm a little sore and bruised now, but nothing major. I guess I'm luckey. The only real injury I sustained was to my pride! LOL.

Georgia... for a brief moment on my way down I thought of you and your tumbles!

Yikes....sorry Kathy! Glad you didn't do any major damage. Hope you don't get too sore. Good for you on finishing your run! Thanks for feel better wishes! Hope you feel better too!

i just had a really cool thing happen on my run tonite... my next door neighbor, a kid of 14, who i consider to be my "other daughter" was my first running partner. u have to realize though that she is on the track team at school (middle school) and she is the only girl who does the mile on her team. she was very sweet and slowed her pace to run with me doing W6D2. i did the whole thing and it kicked my butt, but i am happy with it.

it was nice that she did that. when we were done with the interval, she went ahead and took another lap and said that the podcast was a good workout for her. i suggested she use it for building her time/endurance. i hope she does. also...i was able to talk to her while i was running which is great from what i hear. good endurance without too much strain. the kid is teaching me some good stretching positions, too.

well, tc all,

Carol

I will be glad when I am able to work out. I was banded on April 22nd. They had to modify my walking program b/c I had a bad fall last yr and spent most of the yr in a wheelchair but I fell earlier this week again so I am waiting to get fitted for a walking brace and I can't get into a pool for 3 weeks. It's discouraging but I keep looking forward to working out again. I am glad for this thread

Carol... great running moment! You're on your way!

Bella... don't push yourself too much. Keep safe and let the band work for you. In time you can begin to workout.

We took the kids and dog for a long walk today... the longest one we've done with them. We went about 5.5k, and they did it! The dog's wiped and my DD is exhausted!! But it was really good for them.

Kathy - good for you. So glad you weren't seriously injured. You're an inspiration.

Carol - way to go! DH runs with me on the weekend. He never works out at all and can still run circles around me.

GA - I hope you're back in action this week!

I did my test run this weekend and I ran 3 miles. To add the extra .10, I would have had to run on a dangerous road, so I stopped at exactly the 3 mile point. It took me 38 minutes, so even though that isn't fast, I'm happy with it and I didn't stop or even slow my pace at all.

I'm hoping to improve my time by Sat. I'm thinking the excitement of the crowd may help me push my speed a little more.

Wish me luck!

Suzanne...great job! Good luck Saturday!

Not sure I told ya'll, but Friday I went to the chiropractor about my neck. He thinks my neck problem is muscle related rather than a spinal injury. Well, my neck is getting better each day, but I think he may have done something to my back with all the popping he did. My lower back is killing me! I've had some pain shooting down my leg too. Maybe a nerve or something? I'm going back again today and hopefully he can fix my back. Wish me luck!

GA and Suzanne good luck to both of you for your respective things. Suzanne, you will do great at your race this weekend. Sounds like u really r ready. I'm excited for u and right behind u. 38 minutes doesnt sound slow to me... And Ga, I really hope u feel better soon.

Kathy wow, amazing. I hope i never have to experience a flaa like that, but if i do, I'm gonna make sure im ok just like you did, then hope i can pick myself up and keep on. Thanks for being such a great role model

well my wt stays stagnant. maybe im just meant to be here hovering around 180. my "directional" scale keeps staying above that stupid mark. i feel good most of the time and am really proud of my running. i need to start doing something for my upper body, but im just so into the running that i keep putting the upper body stuff off. was supposed to run tonite, but its DDs birthday and she wants to go out for pasta...ugh, so i'll do the run tomorrow instead. sounds like a salad for dinner for me tonite. Ive been getting stuck at dinner lately, so we'll see how i resolve that. and since my anniversary is wednesday, timing will work better for tomorrow anyway.

tc all and have a great week,

Carol

have a great week everyone

Carol, good luck tonight and with your run tomorrow.

Have you taken your measurements? When I started running, I didn't lose either, but I went down a full size! Now, I'm still about the same weight, but my pants are getting lose again. Hard to believe!

Just got back from the chiropractor and I am already feeling a little better. I told him that my lower (really low) back was hurting, a little to the left of my spine. He checked my hips and said that my hip was out of line, causing one leg to be slightly shorter than the other. He said something we did Friday may have triggered it. I think it's fixed now and hopefully I will be pain free in couple of days!

I have been busy, busy, busy and I need to get moving again. I just got back from the DECA Nationals, where I took 18 students. A week of no sleep, stress and some fun!

Time to get serious. It is a downpour outside, hoping it is not to bad out at my house, I want to get a good run in - it has been way too long!

Hi All, glad to see all the activity!

Georgia... I love Chiropractors! I hope the back cracking helps. I have a chronic issue with my lower back/hip area, and when its not in line, it aches a lot!

I'm out of town all week at a sales meeting. They have us in a nice resort in Niagara Falls area. We got here around 2 and the meeting was set to start at 4, so I took advantage of the free time to check out the fitness facility. I ran 3k and am so glad I did. The rest of the day involved lots of wine (Niagara is wine country) and good food! I plan to get up early and run again.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
