Well I can't believe it..... I am down 5 lbs..... The past few week have been a time to be refocused. Thanks for the thread, it is what got me jump-started.

Becky - I checked into that book, Strong Women Stay Young, I ordered it from Amazon. It sound very interesting. I have entered a training program with my job, I have to be away from home during the week. Has made it hard to keep a consistant workout program. But this book makes it sound like it can be done. Walking and free weights. But if I am really honest with myself, the being away from home has just been a "Excuse" not to workout. So here is to no more excuses.

Take care all,

Laura

Becky- thanks for the kind words- I'm not sure about other bandsters but I really beat myself up when I do something not part of the bandster rules. One day isn't a disaster - you are right! :)

Laura- yea for losing 5 lbs!!! I travel extensively and am sympathetic to you- how are you handling the eating while you travel? I find resturants to be much harder- so many tempting dishes!

keep up the great work!

Karey- hope you are feeling better today!

Well I guess that I am lucky in some ways, I do have a small apartment that I stay in when away from home. So I am able to shop at the grocery store, fix my food at night and carry my lunch to work. That has been the only thing that has saved me. If I had to eat out all of the time it would be bad, bad, bad. I pack my lunch and Snacks each morning, plan out what I am going to eat. I have a hard fast rule, "If it is not in my lunch bag, I cannot eat it!". What has gotten me the most is how people at work try to make you eat, "Oh, we have donuts in the break room, or cookies" etc. I have just told them that I am a border line diabetic (was true before my band) and that has helped stop the offers of food.< /p>

you are lucky to have those facilities, laura! I travel about 4-5 times a month, usually stay in a hotel without a kitchen and have a hard time packing food with me. I'm going to work my hardest this weekend to stay on goal. I know I'm doing a dinner out at a fabulous resturant saturday night so to allow for that, I've got meals planned and Protein Bars to ensure my calories will be negative for the weekend. Keep your fingers crossed for me that I can do it!

I'm just checking in to see how you all are doing. Looks like y'all mean business and are getting the results you're after. Great job to all of you. Keep it up.

Karey, I'm anxious to hear about your upper GI. I'm kind of worried that you didn't post yesterday. Let us know how you're doing.

Laura, I hope you like "Strong Women...." It is a great program for those of us who want to get and stay fit without having to go to the gym or use all those machines. I was looking for something basic, simple, and quick that I could commit to for the long haul. This fits the bill for me.

Well, yesterday was quite the day! I ended up having a slipped band and some of the upper stomach had got into the band and I was completely blocked. I couldn't even hold down Water. I had emergency surgery, where they perforated my stomach, they removed my band, but fortunately, they were able to put a new band in. I think I'm glad I still have a band! I guess it was a very difficult surgery and they almost had to do a vertical incision. I had 2 lap band docs working on me and they were able to get the job done. There goes my scar free flat stomach! Really, I feel very blessed to be alive and out of the pain I was in yesterday. I have some pain now, but it's nothing like a TT was. I'm off the HCG diet (of course) and back to a new bandsters diet. So, I guess I can stay in the challenge. LOL. Well, I feel like crap and I guess I'll go do some more resting! More later...

OMG Karey! What a horrible experience. I can't believe that all happened so suddenly. Thank God you got the emergency treatment that you needed. Your experience is also an important reminder for all of us. We should never ignore unusual band symptoms and when you can't get Water down you should be seen immediately.

Please rest and take it slow and easy. Boy it has been a rough month for you. I hope you feel better real soon.

On the bright side, you will no doubt drop the last of your weight in a hurry on a new bandster's diet.

OMG Karey! I am sorry to hear that you had to have surgery but fortunately you were able to keep your band. That is scary. Glad everything worked out well for you though. Take it easy. No point in losing weight if you can't be around to enjoy it. The weight will come off. Do they know what caused the slip?

Karey, did you notice that three people responded almost immediately after your post? We've all been worried about you and checking to see if you had any news. You're loved around LBT!

Karey- Holy hell! I'm so glad you are safe and ok and still banded. What trauma! Please take care of yourself and the new bandsters diet will get you to goal! What a hard way to get there though!

Hope you feel better soon!

TexasBecky is right- you rock and only good things should happen to people as kind and helpful as you are

Karey, I can't believe this happened to you!

I am so glad you are alright and got into the doctor quick enough. Please let me/us know if there is anything we can do to help. I wish you were in the KC area I'd offer to come over and help around the house.

karey, as mcgreen so eloquently put it HOLY HELL! My gosh I knew something was wrong, but I sure didn't think you'd have to get some new holes!! I too was so glad that I didn't have to have my band removed. I have no fill yet but yesterday the doc said I might be able to get some in 2 weeks. I hope you will rest up, give your bod some TLC and get back at it too.

What a lousy birthday present. But you're a gift to all of us here and we are thankful that you're on the mend.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
