Hi everybody.

I just registered and I wanted to say hi to everyone here. I am just beginning this journey (literally, I just called my insurance company yesterday to see if they would cover the lap band. Hahaha!)

Anyway, I'm sure that I will have questions later for everyone.

Off to go make an appointment with my doctor!

Hi GM....

Welcome! What part of California are you in? I'm on the Central Coast and have to drive a little over an hour to Santa Barbara. There is only one doctor between us and the Los Angeles area who takes my insurance, and he is going to quit that (only began in February) because it doesn't pay enough. Thankfully he is going to finish those of us who started with him. I get banded next Thursday. Good luck on your journey.

Welcome! I'm near Temecula, CA.

I finished all of my doctors requirements a little over a week ago & and my doctor's office just submitted to my insurance on Wednesday. I have called them daily to see if there are any updates.... I'm just a TAD impatient & I'm sooooooooo ready!

Good luck and keep us updated!

Hi, I am in the high desert. Who is your doctor? I had a consultation in LA and loved the office but it is so far to travel.

I am trying to find a doctor. Do you have any recommendations? I was thinking of going to UCSF, but they are kind of intimidating. Is there anyone who you guys have really enjoyed working with?

Dr. Robert McKeen at Southbay Bariatrics is awesome. He has done thousands of lapbands and does 90% lapbands now. Julie

Hi Diane, I am seeing Dr. Bhoyrul (scripps green) in San Diego. It's a good hour drive for me, but I REALLY like him so it's worth it. What city are u in?

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
