I have been getting a feeling of acid in my throat and im wondering what it is from. I was banded may 21st 2007 and i have not had a fill yet. Is it form me eating too much? too fast? wrong food? I try to combat it with some skin milk which helps for a little. I notice it more with food thats like with a red sauce of some type, but thats not always the case. I tried to contact my dietitian but she has yet to return my call.

I get acid all the time. I had it before surgery and was hoping it would stop after, but it has not, in fact it has increased. I take prilosec to help keep it under control. It helps but it doesn't stop it completely. If I get a fill and it is tight it gets worse. I live on tums, rolaids, pepcid, and prilosec. I have to deal with the acid reflux because I'm not giving up my band!

Sorry to hear ur dealing with it before and now after the band as well. I have never really had it before and im kinda worried why it would happen after the band. my dietitian contacted me today and she does not know why I would be getting the acid .

Jessica, it is okay to take an antacid such as Prilosec. I would start with that. It is probably because you are still a tad swollen. Typically acid, heartburn and reflux come when you are too tight. In your case, I am sure it is because you are swollen. Try not to eat too late at night as well.

hi Jessica, i just found papaya enzymes! they are GREAT and i have had acid reflux for years and am on protonix. it was working fine until surgery (june 10th). since i've been an acid mess - pain in my chest to the left of my breast bone, my back (like a pinched nerve) up into my neck! it seems to start when i've had someting even slightly acidic to drink - like crystal light or watered down tea). i'm still taking protonix BUT this week someone recommened papaya enzymes and got some and the relief has been AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! all natural. a digestive enzyme. i can't completely explain it but it works! i now feel normal! you can google and find them out there - GNC, Vitamin Shoppe, etc. good luck!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
