went for a defill today and I think they took out too much....

Recommended Posts

so last tuesday I went for my fourth fill. It put me at 6.5ccs in a 10cc band. over the last week, I have hardly been able to keep any food down. This week has been the first time I actually couldn't sleep because I was up with indegestion and had to get up in the middle of the night to PB.

Today, I mushed up scrambled eggs, and even a few bites was too much, and I got stuck. PB'd it up, then the orange juice came back up, and decided "ok, that's it, a week of this really isn't fun and i'm actually hungry." Waited til lunch, had chicken broth and a couple noodles, and "blech" - PB again.

So I went for a defill at 230pm. I said "i hear that even .2 ccs can make a huge difference." she said "well, if you're not keeping liquids down, then .2 ccs won't be enough." so she took out .5 ccs.

well, i got home and was able to eat 3 chicken wings, a 1/2 slice of pizza, small salad and a cup of edamame. Seems like way too much food, seeing as though I couldn't even keep liquids down just a few hours ago.

Does it sound like I probably could have a tiny bit put back? I lost 6 pounds last week, which was awesome, but not very fun. I PB;d up some pretty good food! seemed like such a waste... :frown: But now it seemed to go down way too easily. I've decided to stop eating for the night, but I probably could go eat more. Likely because I've been starving myself all week.....

Your thoughts fellow bandsters?

we were banded on the same day!!

i just had my 2nd fill on june 7th and i really thought i was over-filled. i could drink just fine but i couldn't keep any food down at all. unfortunately i live 4 hours away from my doctor and couldn't go in for in for an unfill.

9 days later i'm finally able to eat a little (around 3 bites) and keep it down. i think i was just so swollen and probably still am and that's why i couldn't keep anything down.

it seems like both of our doctors are pretty aggressive when it comes to the amount of fills. i would definitely go back and have those .3cc's added back! doesn't seem right that you went from not being able to eat anything to eating that much!

actually I don't think that was much food!!! think about how many chicken wings you would have eaten before the band... I think the choices were poor but not a lot of food....re think this before you ask for more....

You may want to wait a week or two before going back in for a fill. 1/2 (.5) a cc isn't really that much. Give yourself a little break, eat healthy, and go back for a fill but maybe start with only .25 (1/4) cc.

I was having trouble a few weeks ago simular to yours and I had an unfill. Doc took 1cc out. I knew as soon as he said it it was too much. But I've delt with it for a few weeks. Yes, I eat more than I think I should but not nearly as much as pre-band. I go tuesday to get some fill put back in. Only asking for 1/2 cc. I don't like staying up at night with heartburn.

:tongue_smilie:I had a fill on Wednesday the 11th, everything was good.... I woke up Thursday morning and couldn't even swallow my own spit. I was miserable I threw up everything all day, even had to pull over on the side of the road because I was gagging from all of the slime (nice huh!), thought I was just swollen so Friday morning got up felt pretty good cooked an egg and had two bites I was done, thirty minutes later it was all coming back up... I couldn't drink I couldn't do anything I was miserable... So I went and had a unfill, my normal Dr. was not there and obviously the dr. there did not want to mess with me so he just put me back to where I was before the fill, I was irritated because he was busy and didn't want to mess with me...... Oh well, I can eat anything now!!! I just can't get back in to get a fill until July 28th, but I will work thru it I would rather control myself than let the band control me, and that is what it was doing I have never been so miserable in my life..... I did lose 5 pounds.....

UPDATE: So yes, on Friday, June 27, I went for a re-fill, but only .25 ccs. Its only been four days, but i'm liking how this feels. If i dont chew or eat too big of a bite, I can feel the food get stuck, but it does go down. After a 1/2 can of tuna or three pork ribs, I am satisfied. I've been able to nibble on an omelette all day. Have had prawns, eggs, chicken, Peanut Butter, fish, etc. this week and no PBing. I'll ride this fill amount out, but I like how this feels.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
