I have to do the Optifast diet 2 weeks pre-op. I have heard that some have experienced headaches while doing this diet. What has been your experience with Optifast?

I loved Optifast! - The only side effect - I was completely full. I had to drink 6 per day which I alternated with chocolate and strawberry. Sometimes, I will drink only 5 and had chicken broth for dinner.

I used to be a Pepsi drinker addict and I didn't have any withdrawals.

I had to do Optifast for 2 weeks also. It really wasn't as bad as I thought. I really liked the vanilla. I would add some sugar-free instant coffee to it to change it up a bit. You do learn to appreciate food during this time. I remember how good things tasted, which I hadn't realized in years! Good luck!

Its probably the same headaches you would get if you cut 75% of your caloric intake.

I would get headaches if I didn't eat anything before dinner for that day. I had them on my first 3 days of my diet. No biggie.

Hi poohprecious -

80lbs is my total from July 2007 - Since surgery, I have lost about over 26lbs. I don't drink Optifast anymore but I might buy it again for my Breakfast meal. My weight stats are listed above my weight lose ticker.

Question about Optifast...I have to drink it (or something similar) for two weeks before. I can buy it on my Dr.s website, but can you get it at a store or anywhere else? I don't mind getting it there, but i'd like to buy smaller portions and mix it up and buy several flavors. Thanks!

I once drank 5 optifasts a day for 4 months and that was it. I lost a lot of weight, but gained most of it back. that is why I am having the surgery. The first week is hard, but after that is is easy. Just remind yourself why you are doing it.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
