Hi All!

I'm TriCare Prime Remote North. I'm in the beginng stages but so far have been approved for the initial consultation. I have my phone H & P interview in 2 weeks. This is when they will schedule my psych consult and order any lab work. I am hoping all goes smoothly. I didn't realize TriCare reqiures an overnight stay. Did they tell your physician this when they obtained authorization?

It's great to connect with other TriCare folks! Any info is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!!!

Where are you in WV? my family is from Greenville,WV, and from Oakhill,WV. I will be in WV the first week of Aug then will have my surgery Aug 28.

I'm in the Eastern Panhandle! Martinsburg. I have a friend that lives in Conway! Good luck with your surgery! You can go to the https://www.hnfs.net/common/home/ to check claim status and approval status, etc... I only had to pay for the psych consult, but that was because she was out of network and I didn't mind. It just seemed easier because she saw me in my surgeons office. Hopefully I will be getting a date soon!

Go to mytricare.com but you have to be registered there (not on tricare, on mytricare.com) but tricare told me their coordinator doesn't post approved until AFTER surgery (figure that out) - I was approved a week ago and my authorization still says "in process". I think every office is a bit different.

I was told they tell the DR if I was approved so I called in and the nurse said they just faxed the approval. I was on with tricare just minutes before and she didn't have any information. Screwy system but I was approved so I didn't care!:biggrin2:

So, this is soo frustrating!! Apparently the surgeon's office submitted to Tricare on Thurs, so I check it online today (Fri) and it says "pending review"!!!! I have to wait ALL weekend...ugghhh sheer torture!! I almost wish I hadnt checked it....sigh....the waiting continues!

I'm TriCare Prime South, and overall I was suprised how fast it all went to get approved. I went to the seminar at the end of March, but their ladies who do the review and such had to have surgery so my paperwork from them didn't get processed until May. In that time I went to my psych-evals and got those done and had my first visit with the hospital. They called me June and said that they hadn't gotten the big OK from TriCare yet,but went ahead and scheduled the appt for Aug 27th. Less than a week later I got a letter from TriCare saying I was approved for one procedure with my doctor.

It has taken me about 2 months from my first seminar at the dr.s office. We have Tricare Prime South. My husband has not been approved...he has sleep apnea and diabetes and it is taking a little longer. I did not have to have the psyche visit or the dietician or anything else. My surgery is August 6...I'm really excited!

I have Tricare Prime South also and I had to have PC Dr write a letter to the surgeon requesting the lap band, 2 visits with the nutri, 1 psyh, stress test, 2 visits with the surgeon and the seminar of course, I have diabetes and high blood pressure i am schuduled for Aug 28 so I am sure your husband will be approved shortly, my trip started April 21 when I went to the seminar. good luck and GOD BLESS:thumbup:

Once all was said and done it only took a few days. But you have to follow their guidelines closely. Having to see andpay for dietician and pschologist, and diet classes. Then They said I was not heavy enough. But in the end they approved and I had mine done last week.

I have Tricare too. It took about a week for the approval. The Dr I used had a Tricare dedicated coordinator though so maybe that made a difference.

I didnt know about the requirement for an overnight stay...good thing I decided to stay overnight on my own. :) With 4 dogs I just felt it was for the best.

I also have Tricare Prime North...

HOWEVER.... a MTF started doing the surgery July 1st, so Tricare declined to allow me to seek a private doctor... the MTF is 40 miles away. As of when I called they were scheduling for 16 months out. I had to bite the bullet and self pay.

I have Tricare Prime South and I was approved in about a day. I was banded in March and Tricare did not require an overnight stay. I think that is up to the surgeon, not required by Tricare. They did however call me and want me to have my surgery done at a Center of Excellence, which meant that instead of the Surgery Center my Dr uses for some of his patients I had to go to the hospital which is a Center of Excellence hospital (which was fine w/ me)

I went for my initial consult June 30. I quickly went and did the blood work and took the psych test in the Dr. office. I thought that was all I had to do until my "P" (Pending) turned into a "C" (cancelled) on Tricare's website. I called and they said I needed the preop letter before they would approve.

So, I go and do the EKG, more blood work, urine test, etc. Urine comes back irregular. I go back again last Monday and do it again. Alls well. While I am at my PCM the surgeons office called and said I was "C" becuase my referral from my PCM only said "evaluate" and needed to say "evaluate and treat". So, I go over to the desk and put in a phone consult for my PCM to redo the referral.

A week later its done. I wait 3 more days for Tricare to get it and as of today I am "P" again on the website. Hopefully, I will know something in the next few days. If I am approved I'll need my surgery date quick because I think the preop letter is only good for 30 days.

All that to say, this has drug on about a month now.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
