Need a break from LBT

Recommended Posts

I just have to say that I'm pretty sick and tired of the complainers on here. I'm frustrated that so many don't know what to expect once they have their band.

Didn't they attend a weight loss surgery seminar? Didn't they meet with their doctor, nutritionist, do the psych evaluation and do some type of pre-op diet?

I'm confused as to why there are so many posts of, "I've been banded for three days! When can I gulp Water?!" or "I'm so hungry! I can't do this liquid diet. I went to McDonald's today! Have I damaged my band?"

SERIOUSLY, folks?!

I researched the hell out of lapband for three years prior to surgery. I researched numerous weight loss surgery doctors in my area, went to two different seminars and met with my doctor three times, nutritionist four times, counselor twice and my PCP about a million times.

I spoke to my insurance provider so many times I lost count, I went to the store and stocked up on SF foods, Crystal Light, Soups and bought the damn blender.

I posted the pre and post op diet on my frig as a reminder to myself and to my husband. My doctor actually gave me three copies of these diets - I was overloaded with information!!

I find it incredibly hard to believe that people go all the way to get banded and then come on here and ask, "When can I eat real food" or "When can I exercise?" or "It hurts. Waaaa."

I'm just sick of it all. I think I'm better off staying away from this site. There is so much that is negative and the same things are talked about time and time again.

Maybe I don't have the patience for those who are clueless and who seem to take a stance of ignorance when it comes to their health and well-being. Do some of you just go to your doctor with ear plugs in? They give you all the information you'll ever need - and then some!

My pre-op diet was hard, but I did it! I lost 17 pounds before surgery. I had an excellent surgery and spent one night in the hospital. I had no pain medications once I got home. Was it tough - kinda - but I did it. I followed the program - full liquids to blended to mushies to regular food. I'm not filled yet and is it hard? YES! No whining though. Before I went into this program I knew I'd be hungry. I didn't believe I'd stay full 24/7 and always feel satisfied. Not until I'm filled at least.

These posts of, "I'm not filled yet and I'm so hungry! I thought this band was supposed to make me feel full!!" ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! I KNOW your doctor told you that you wouldn't feel restriction until you were filled. So why come on here and fein ignorance?

I swear people whine for the sake of whining.

This isn't rocket science. Do the pre-op diet, get your head straight, your facts straight, prepare, exercise, do the post-op diet, go to your appointments, continue to exercise and live it. Own it. Don't look for reasons to fail. Walk into this with your eyes and ears wide open. Don't look for reasons to eat.

You've obviously tried to diet before and you're overweight now. Do what it takes to get better. Now I know what Nike meant when they said, "Just do it!"

Ugh. I need a break from this site.

your post is like the 8th one in a 2wk span on the same subject.frustration with those who are having a difficult time / don't follow directions / can't wait for restriction / cheat on pre-post op diet / among a host of other complaints.

can't you just move on to another thread that is of more interest - uplifting - or those that can provide guidance? i wonder why someone would get annoyed. some get it sooner, some not at all - OK, navigate yourself around to the threads of importance to you, and click the back button if the same old story is repeated for the hundreth time.

LBT has been very helpful to me, if i've replied to a thread requesting the same informtion day after day - it's because i'm grateful to those who helped me out the first few months & don't mind providing assistance.

you get what you give & you can use LBT how you want & don't = choices.

Excuse me all to hell but this is the Rant / Off Topic Area, correct? Am I not entitled to have my say? I'm not responding to anyone in particular, I'm just posting my feelings.

Good grief.

Erica, I hear ya! It can get frustrating to read those type posts over and over again. Honestly, I've gotten to the point where I don't even read those anymore. In fact, I haven't been in the pre-op and post-op questions forums in quite a while.

That being said, I could never just leave this site because of it. This site is way to beneficial for me. I need the support system here, not to mention I've made quite a few friends here that I would miss dearly. Hopefully you can find a way to deal with it because while leaving seems like the answer now, I'm afraid you would miss out on some wonderful support here. Best of luck to you.

Erica, I know how you feel. I started a Rant on here myself a few weeks ago - probably the one that luluc referred to in her earlier post. There is a lot of negativity, but there are also a lot of positive posts as well. I've come on here to complain too, to ask stupid questions I should have known the answer to, and to rant at times.

The majority of the time though I come on here for inspiration. I love to see the journeys and sometimes struggles of some of the "oldies" here. Hopefully I can learn from other peoples mistakes. The before/after photo forum has to be one of my favorites. It reinstates the reason I have been banded and keeps me encouraged. If they can do it, then damnit so can I. Don't ever give up. I have a problem with quitters, not strugglers.

Like Georgia Girl, I have made many friends here. Had a few arguements with others (you know who you are ), but respect and still consider them friends as well. I couldn't do this without LBT and the wonderful people here. I hope you plan to stick around.

I think that SOME people truly don't get the information they need from their doctors. I am still in the pre-banding process and I have received very little information so far. I have found most of my answers on here.

Granted, I have not been complaining, but, I know I will have questions later. The thing to remember about forums is that there are always those who go to the extreme. There will be those who, no matter how much information their doctors give them, will do what they want and then wonder why everything is going wrong. The best thing is to just ignore those posts and move on to more positive ones.

luluc, has just as much right to respond to this as you have to start it!

I'm with luluc on this one. Ranting about repetitive seemingly simple questions may be annoying, but repetitive ranting about the seemingly simple questions is MUCH more annoying. :)

I don't mind the questions. I got a lot of info from my doc- every doc is different. You see people on here doing different things and you may not realize that. Of course, there are some questions that pass my mind that either I don't think to ask my doc, or I know people here on LBT are going to answer better because they've been through it. When I was preband, I had a potato for dinner, I was FREAKED that they were going to cancel my surgery and turn me away. You don't know these things until you ask people.

Maybe because it's been so long since you were banded that you forgot what it was like to be a newbie? I don't know.

Also, the whining could come from a lot of things... it's emotional! I know losing food has been one of the hardest things I've had to deal with. Unless you have a REAL tried and true addiction to food, you'll never understand. It's a real FORCE that draws you in, taunts you, and begs you to eat it. It may be funny, but it's darn true as well.

Click away from the post if it's annoying. :cool2:

I was just banded May 13th of this year. I'm not even filled yet. It hasn't been a long time and I've forgotten nothing.

I never said I didn't have an addiction. Don't assume I don't have an addiction.

Erica,

I know it's not easy reading negative stuff and there will always be a bit of negative stuff in there, so maybe you do need a break if it's what helps you.

I didn't mean to make an assumption but I'm so used to the same ole stuff coming up that sometimes I just go into "mode", lol! brandyII:smile:

You know EricaLyn, for someone who is "better off staying away," you sure are coming back to post a lot. I think it's a great idea for you to just stick with your original plan. Bye.:)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
