Banded on 5/27/08 - New to Lapbandtalk!

Recommended Posts

Hello All!

I am new to Lapbandtalk.com - I was recently banded in Juarez MX by Dr. Jose Rodriguez - so far so good! I am in Stage 3 purees/mushy food as of today 6/11/08 - taking it nice and slow.

Including my pre-op diet a week before my surgery until today I have lost 25lbs! My energy is skyrocketing and I can hardly believe what a difference I feel!

I have purchased several resource books that I have found to be useful - "The Lapband for Life" by Dr. Ortiz, "Before & After" by Susan Maria Leach and "Weightloss Surgery for Dummies". (lots of recipes and helpful hints)

I am thrilled to find this helpful forum for support!

Christina:wink_smile:

christina40,

congratulations on your new band. I, too, was banded on May 27th. It seems as though you are doing all the right things. Your weight loss is unbelievable. I won't be on mushies until tomorrw and BOY, I CAN"T WAIT TIL THEN! I AM HUNGRY!!!!!! But, keep up the good work and hopefully both of us next year on our bandiversary can write about our wonderful journey of weight loss.

Hi SunshineLady!

It is wonderful to be losing weight and for me a bit unbelievable - considering the years of dieting! (Trying every diet imagineable - the good, the bad and the ugly!

You will be so happy with the mushy food tomorrow - take it slow! Today I tried a canned chicken (2oz) mixed with a tsp of no-fat mayo - yum! (And I get to chew!)

Best of luck - we can do this!

Hi Christina40,

yes i did have an issue with staying off the scale. I told my daughter to take the scale when i left the house and hide it from me. I haven't weighed myself since the beginning of the month. I became so obsessed that i was doing it 7-8 times a day and looking in the mirror. I still have the mirror out but the scale is gone!!!! My daughter is only allowed to let me have the scale on Sunday mornings; no exceptions!!!!!!! I've been doing good without it. I use my clothes now as an indicator as to am i having any weight loss. Taking the scale away makes me work even harder because I know that i have 7 days to move the numbers down on the scale.

"hohum......to lose or not to lose?....that is the question"

Hi Ladies,

I was also banded on 5/27 and have lost 24 lbs. I have started eating regular foods and think I may be over doing it. The dr. says I should only eat three meals at 4 oz. but I feel like I'm eating more because I am hungry. Was your band filled at your surgery? My dr. said mine is empty right now and my first fill isn't until 2 July. Are either of you hungry all the time?:P

I followed what the dr. said for the first week - hot cereals like cream of wheat, Soups (blended or stuff taken out), lots of sugar free popsicles/jello. I had a hard time with the Protein Drinks (still do). Good luck to you on your surgery! The first two weeks are a challenge, but you'll be fine.

Yes - I am hungry - I wouldn't say all the time but it definitely there. I think at this time is more will power to get to the first fill. (My band is empty - first fill is July 11, 2008) I try to find the highest Protein items when I eat - like chix in the can (Valley Fresh chicken - 13 g of protein) - Egg Beaters w/low fat cheese mixed in - Ground Soy Burger (13 g of protein) w/stewed tomatoes - pinto Beans mashed w/low fat cheddar and 1 tbp of FF sour cream - 12 g of protein)

Some deli shaved meats are okay too - ham or turkey baked w/low fat cheese dipped in mustard.

Greek Yogurt Fage 11 grams of Protein w/tsp of blueberry preserve.

It definitely tough - we are working for the band! I try to be creative to look forward to different foods...

Also I bought - Reynolds storage cups with the number of ounces stamped on the bottom - so I could measure what I was eating and then eat from the same container.

Keep it going - it's so worth!

OMG - that is a great idea to have someone hide the scale - it will have to be my husband to do this for me! Thanks! I was driving myself crazy - like today - the scale hasn't moved - I wanted to kick it! :P

Hi! Have you tried the Protein Drinks mixed with Water or soy milk? Maybe it's the lactose that is not agreeing with your band.

Have a great day!

I had my lapband less than a week ago on June 9th. I am doing OK but am getting sick of juices, Clear Liquids, Jello and bullion! I always considered myself a sweet lover but could be happy right now to never put another sweet thing in my mouth! I feel fairly listless, not a lot of energy.... did you feel the same during the first week? The thought of being able to have Protein Shakes and some more solid things (custard, pudding) next week sounds like it will make things easier or at least feel a little more normal. I am very excited about the lap band and hope that I start feeling a little more energy soon. :P I'm so glad that my sister found this site for me and that I'll be able to talk to others who are a little or a lot ahead of me in this process!

O'my yes - I was so tired of juices, broth & jello-(sugar free popscicles - even sugar free Rita's Waterice) it is huge welcome when you can move onto the pureed stuff. I know it seems to be going slow now but the good stuff is coming and your energy will return. (you will kiss the scale when you see the results from the liquids)

Hang in there!

Christina

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
