pnuts mom,

Hi,

I was reading your posts and wondering how you are doing?

I hope you move forward and do get the band BUT I think you need to find a new DR. My Dr would not touch me until I got my BMI under 60 I had to lose over 40 pounds before they would even give me a surgery date. The reason was because he didn't want to get in there and not be able to band me. Didn't your doctor make you go through all kinds of other tests with other specialists Like Cardo, Pulminary, Nutritionist, Phycologist, hemotoligist...

I was on protien shakes for 3 full months before my surgery to get my BMI done and my liver size down.

Please elt me know ho your doing. The band is a wonderful tool! I love mine...most days lol

Good luck!

I am glad I am reading this because I am on the pre-op high Protein diet and am waiting for surgery to be scheduled. I am worried about my fatty liver(non-alchoholic) with scaring and they said this diet will shrink my liver. I feel slight pain under my rib cage right now. It could be all the gas this diet is creating too. I won't complain so much about my diet if it shrinks the liver so the doc can get at my stomach.

I think the ability to move the liver is surgeon specific; sometimes it has to do with band experience. I gave my surgeon my concerns about my liver and if it would be "thin" enough...and he told me that he's done over 500, and that he's never had an issue.

After surgery he said, "see, I told you--no problems! Your liver looked good!" and all I had done was a week of "sort of" low-carbs. I hope that you've had surgery rescheduled!!

Wow Juli, you are such an inspiration...your weight loss is nothing less then spectacular!!

Juli has a really good point. I've been visiting this site and reading everything I can get my hands on regarding LAP-BAND®. Plus, I attend local support groups for pre and post op bandsters. My surgeon was SHOCKED at the questions I asked him the last time I was in. He told me "You've been doing your homework".

I'd take Juli's advice to heart pnuts, I read her posts frequently and find her suggestions are always right on the money.

I totally agree. Just think of these three months as enough time to gain the additional tools to be successful! Awesome Juli!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
