I'm sure once you get your fill you will have the proper restriction. Wonder why they wait so long to fill it, does it take that long for you to heal?

I think it depends on which doctor you choose to do your fills. The one I choose requires 5 weeks from the date of surgery before she will do a fill minimum. Some doctors make you wait 6 weeks. They want to make sure the stomach is healed and the scar tissue has formed to keep the band in place. I have 5 incisions. I was only expecting 3. Had the stitches in too long, thought he said dissolvable, but they werent and were really pulling on the skin and the red spots were getting redder, so I contacted him and we pulled them out ourselves when he said they were supposed to have been taken out at 7 days. Too many people talking to me at once in the hospital and something didnt get communicated, so I just got my stitches out last Tuesday. No ozzing or anything like some describe, they were all sealed up.

I bet you cant wait for your surgery, soon huh?? Good luck.

You can always email or pm me if you want to talk off the board. I did low gi/nutrisystem type diet before and intend to do similar this time, high Protein low carbs.

You should be able to go to a site like tickerfactory and set up a ticker and paste it in here. If you set it up with a password, then you just sign in and adjust the current weight on their site and it used to change the ticker wherever you have it pasted. Havent used it for a while so I might be doing it wrong, just tried to set up one real fast, can anyone see it? Gotta run today, but usually Im home if anyone wants to talk. Iv got lots of free time.

Hi All! Today is my 1st day back at work and I'm feeling really good. I didn't expect to take a week off of work when I scheduled my surgery, but thank goodness I did.

I started semi-solids today . . .I never thought a scrambled egg would taste so good!!! LOL Since my pre-ops appointment on 7/15, I am down 17.6 lbs. I don't know how, but I'll take it and hope it stays off!!!

Jerrysgirl - Dr. Marsden did my banding, and I love him. He is very good and very funny. I don't know much about the vertical sleeve. What exactly is it?

Laz97 - HI! You said you're starting your journey all over again - if you don't mind me asking, what happened?

Flowers - Honey, it is much too hot to walk outside!!! I think I might try to mall tonight. I'm not moving too quickly since I'm still having incision pains, but a nice stroll in the mall sounds pretty good to me.

You said you are still have issues with gas? I don't feel like I still have a gas build up from the surgery, but if I eat the 1/2 c. of food I'm supposed to eat, my left shoulder starts to ache just like a pocket of gas is still sitting there. Have you ever heard of such a thing?

SkinnyDeb - Congrats on your surgery date.

Hi, Im still in my 4 weeks of mushies, way toooooooo long. I got the fixin's for tacos for tonight and Im not supposed to have the shell. I cant believe eating one shell will give me enough gas to keep me from healing? Im allowed to have the taco meat as a mushy food and the refried Beans.

Yes, I have heard of having gas shoulder pains, there are at least two threads about it on the post op section, lots of people have had sever shoulder pains constantly from gas. They put all that gas into your stomach during surgery to have more room to work and sometimes the gas goes up into your shoulder. You might want to find those threads. Its not your imagination.

I just ran in to put away some cold stuff and going to eat over my parents, laters folks. Yes it is too hot here, but Im going to walk tonight anyway. Hi and bye lol. Skinnydeb if you still need some ticker help let me know or pm me. Tacos here I come, we love tacos.

FLOWERS -

4 weeks of mushies are you kidding me?!?!?!? Thank goodness my doctor only makes you have fluids on week 1, semi-soft on week 2, and after that your free to eat as you please - or as your stomach pleases!! ;o)

I'm glad I found this thread. I'm also from Dallas (actually northeast tarrant county). I got my band on 7/24 from Dr. David Kim.

I'm still on liquids (until Saturday), then I can start mushys. So far have not really been hungry yet - it will come with a vengeance when it does come).

Just getting beyond the too sore to move stage. Most of the incisions are healing nicely except the port one which I've heard takes a bit longer.

Have had some gas pains and the Gas-X strips really don't help a bit. I've also find the heating pad doesn't help - best thing I have found is an cold pack. I bought one of those big ones that covers your whole tummy - and it's been my best friend for days.

Take care for all those healing and good luck to those about to have the surgery.

Hi everyone,

I was banded Aug 6th, 2008. My surgeon was Dr. Davidson. I'm not to techno savvy, and I don't spend a great deal of time on the computer, but I am looking for someone I can call/meet that lives in the Dallas area. I have been to one support group and didn't feel like anyone was really listening... Everyone was to busy talking. I know I will have lots of questions and I don't really know anyone who has gone through this journey. I'm a nurse, 28, in a committed relationship. If anyone in the Dallas area is willing to be a buddy/mentor, in person, please send me a message.

Thanks

Julie

Julie -

I am newly banded (July 21st) as well, but if you want someone to go through the process with you, I am open to being a buddy.

also, I have recently joined a group on meetup.com that is for lap-band patients - it's very small - so far I think there are only 5 people, but a couple of them have been banded for a year or more.

If you are interested, let me know.

my e-mail is clfinzen@yahoo.com. If you e-mail me off line, I can give you my phone number.

Hope all is going smoothly with you . . .

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
