Paid cash just last week. The hospital and anathesiologist (where is sp chk when you need it) offered a 35% deducation for cash that total for both was $12,500. Dr. Henessey was $2300. includes all pre and post for 3 moths from surgery date. fills included during that 3 months. total was $14,800.

The hospital and dr. were WONDERFUL and I would do any procedure with both. My hubby even got to sleep and eat at the hospital no charge. The bed was a murphy bed so not the most comfy but hey, better than $75 for a hotel room.

I know 2 ladies that went to mexico, it saved then about 5000. however they are paying more for after care when mine is included. not to mention I had 2 prescriptions after release that dr called in with no problems. Just wonder, what do you do once your home, and dr is in mexico? anyway, Theres the price, and the experience was wonderful. Good Luck finding the right Doc for you.

Going to Mx is not a problem, sort of a day trip. Go down, pay the $35 shop some , come home. You know Montana is a big state like Texas and you sometimes have to travel to get a deal. It's a nice drive and will give me time with my son.

I am also gathering information on self pay. I use to live in Dallas area and have a friend in Carrollton that is looking at these doctors. You have several options in Texas. More than I have here in Memphis, Tennessee. Memphis is still holding their price at 18,000. But some Dallas doctors are coming down to 13,500 and I have even heard around 10,000. I copied the following information from my friends email.

" I just read on Lapband.com that there is a doctor in Mesquite that does

the lapband for $10,100 and that includes a nights stay in the hospital.

Also he only charges $100 for the fills. The doctor in Mesquite is Dr. Barker ".

There is many Texas lab-banders here on this site. You may have to look around for a bit to hook up with people in your area. What city are you from?

The dr. that was going to do my surgery in Oakridge, Tn moved his office to Memphis to be near a big hospital his son is being treated at. He is an expert with lapband surgery and his prices are far more reasonable than you quoted here. His name is Dr. McAlexander (or it may be MacAlexander) never can keep it straight. You would adore him. I imagine he has an office set up by now or will shortly. Hope this helps you.

I paid about $13,000 and that includes the first year of follow-up, insurance against problems, and support groups. After the first year it's only $200/yr. I was also a self-pay. I took out a personal loan from my bank for it. I took out a little extra to pay off my car. With eating less and having no car payment, my bills pretty much equal out to what I was paying before.

Christina,I was on www.obesityhelp.com website the other day and the WISH Center has an add out there for the lap band. I think the cost was $10,700. However, there may be some other charges not included in the price.Randi

I was a self pay. I used Dr. Benavides in Richardson. Mine was $15,000. It was done in the Surgery Center of Richardson outpatient. Mine also includes all fills for one year. Check out his website at www.drbenavides.com.

Let me know if you want anymore info. They were great!

Ditto - exact same thing with me. I thought the Surgery Center of Richardson was pretty nice. Really good people there, too. In addition, I really like the fill center where all they do are fills. They use flouroscopy which I think makes the chances of error on fills as minimized as possible.

Dr. Barker in Dallas - $12,600 - you have to ask for that rate and get it done at Vista Hospital to get that rate - Dr. Barker only goes to Vista once a month or so.

Hi,

I am a self pay and am going to Dr. Sanchez the first part of June.

There were several reasons I chose him

1. He was recommended to me by the local gastroentologist in Lancaster, Tx.

2. His credentials are outstanding. He also worked with Denton Cooley at the Texas Heart Institute.

3. His experience. He has done 5000 procedures and is in the top 10 lapband surgeons.

4. His nephew is a cardiologist and does fills. He has an office in North Dallas and another in Ferris, South of Dallas. He also worked with Michael DeBalkey and Denton Cooley.

So I feel that I am in very good hands, can't get much better than that.

This is his web site if you would like to check it out.

Hi there!

I was banded March17, 06. I am a self payer from Colorado and went to Tijuana where Dr. Ortiz (Obesity Control Center) performed my surgery. It was the most awesome experience I ever had with hospitals, clinics, etc. etc. etc. I am a Registered Nurse and the quality of care blows the US out of the water! (I will swear to that!). I spent $250.00 airfare to San Diego airport where the OCC picked me up directly from the airport and brought me to the clinic for my pre-op visit. After they escorted me to a fancy hotel and pretty much hand feed me any/all the information I needed. They then took me from the hotel to the hospital where surgery was performed. Stayed one night (felt absolutely NO pain, sore tummy muscles like doing sit ups, but no pain!). And they brought me back to the hotel. Stayed for few days 'recovering' (yep, went shopping, sight seeing and to the beach! etc, etc. etc) and then OCC met me in the hotel lobby on the 4th morning and drove me directly back to the airport in San Diego! The cost for the surgery was $8500.00 (a special running if you had surgery in Feb or March) but normally is $9500.00. No surprise charges (and this includes the hotel stay also!!!!) So with airfare and the surgery it was about $8750.00. I tipped my drivers, and bought tons of good stuff like a new leather purse, vanilla, blah blah blah - which was about another $200.00. Sure beats what it would have cost me in Colorado - $23000.00!! and that was several places around the Denver area. Tijuana, Mexico gave me a very pleasant experience!

I had forgot to mention, Dr. Ortiz will do free fills for life at his center. You might have to pay extra for the flouro equipment if you need it. I figure it will cost me anywhere from $200 - $400 bucks in airfare back to Tijuana, which is about what any fill center or Dr. will charge in the US. It will come out even for me one way or another - I plan on staying with Dr. Ortiz, so it provides both me and the Dr. with continuity of care with my Band.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
