Dr. Eric Pinnar performed my surgery on April 18, 2008. I've had two post-op visits with him so far and all is going very well. He asked me to pass along my personal experience with post-op pain because he feels that is a question lots of potential patients have. I'm glad to help.

My veins are hard to find so I had the IV in the back of my hand. That was unpleasant, but not bad. More annoying than painful. When I woke up after the surgery I guess I was on pain medication because I really didn't feel much. Because I wear CPAP due to sleep apnea I had to stay overnight in the hospital. As the day wore on my stomach started to feel like I'd done too many situps. Sore, but no real pain. I got out of bed four or five times the first day. By evening I was walking for fifteen minutes or so. I really don't remember if they gave me any pain medication the first night.

The next morning I got up twice to take walks while waiting to be released. The nurse suggested I take a dose of oral pain medicine since my trip home is more than an hour. I'm glad I did that because it helped me relax and not worry if anything was going to hurt.

At home I didn't need any pain meds at all. My stomach was sore, but no real pain. By the fourth day biggest problem was remembering I had had surgery and avoiding too much phycical activity.

Maybe I was lucky, but for me the post-op pain was never a problem.

My experience was very similar. I used Tylenol at home, and nothing more in the hospital then some super-ibuprophen they gave IV. Didn't touch the morphine. I agree, my biggest problem was and is not overdoing it because I feel great

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
