My Husband says he would not go through the surgery but If I wanted to it was fine with him. Most of you have gone to other countries to get yours since it was cheaper but what do you do about the fills?

My dh was all for it if it made me happy. He did ask one time if they insurance was paying for it, it didn't matter if they were or not I was having it done, then I told him to go count his Harley's. He never mentioned the price again, LOL.

My boyfriend has been very supportive, he has even come to support meetings with me. I was planning on a gastric bypass a couple of years ago, he was totally against that. At the time I was going to have surgery there was a lot of bad press about the bypass.

My hubby has been very suportive through the whole process. He knows how hard I've tried to lose weight in the past and he just wants me to be healthy!!!

My husband was nervous. He is very thin and didn't realize how much my weight bothered me since I was at my largest when I met him. After I explained the way I felt everyday..fat and unattractive..he said "whatever you need to make yourself feel better." Now that I am losing he is nervous I will "leave him for a rich man." I just told him if I wanted to marry a rich man I could have but I chose him (Iwas dating one when I met him.) Now I am nervous he won't like me skinny, LOL. I will say one thing even with just 30 lbs off our romance is much better!!! My self confidence is much higher which I am sure helps in that area.

Joyce, I absolutely had a fill doctor lined up in my area who would take me even though I was having my surgery done elsewhere. That is one of the single biggest mistakes people make when going out of country is not having the proper aftercare lined up. If you live close to the border I suppose its fine for those individuals but I live in Oregon and had no plans on going back to Mexico for aftercare.

Alatina, Congrats on you banding date coming up. It is possible for you to reach your goal by x-mas but don't be horribly disappointed if it doesn't happen too. Every person has a different experience regarding the speed of weight loss and the need for fills. I evidently set my goal to lose 100 lbs by the end of year one (I forgot about doing this but both my father in law and my mom happened to remind me of it this last week). Now I'm just 2 weeks shy of year one done with and I'm at an 89.6 lb loss. Seriously, I am perfectly fine with that. I still do have two weeks but I'll be happy just to officially get past the 90 lb loss mark. Good luck on your surgery, Teresa

My boyfriend was totally supportive. I was actually on vacation with my mom and sister when I decided to have it done (I was telling my mom about this new thing I'd read about and she said "you should do that, I'll pay for it). He said that I should do whatever makes me happy (I still can't get him to tell me what he was REALLY thinking). He was quite nervous about the Mexico prospect, but was quite calmed when we got there and he saw that it's not quite like he had in his head. :)

My husband and I had our surgery done 30minutes apart. It was actually his idea. He had to convince me. If he hadn't been insistent in getting it for himself I wouldn't have gotten it probably but, I wasn't going to let him lose weight if I couldn't too. I was 45 pounds heavier than him.

I'm glad to hear that most of everyones partners, husbands, wifes have all had reservations. My partner is very well informed, even has spent hours researching all the aspects of banding, offered all kinds of help until it became a reality. Now all I hear is any possible negative one can come up with. All I keep doing is reasuring him that it will be alright. well if all go's well monday may 2nd i'll be banded and on my way !!!

My husband was and is very supportive, he's been through EVERY diet attempt I've done and that's a lot of attempts in 33 years.

He was concerned and I'd have been upset if he hadn't been...after all, it IS surgery. I did have to recognize his concern(s) and give it the consideration it deserved afterall, when you are part of a couple, you should consider each others views.

It did help to know that the mortality rate for this one is like 1 in 10,000 and the rate for the more drastic one is 1 in 200 or 300...BIG difference.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
