OMG!!!!!! I have itched my stomach in places that has made me raw. I was banded on May 12th and my steri strips have not fallen off yet. Has anyone else had a lot of itching on their stomach? If so, what can you do.

Thanks,

I actually got a rash from the plastic tape square things that were put over the steri-strips. When I called my surgeon, he told me to go ahead and take them off, including the steri-strips. It was less than a week post op. You might ask your surgeon if you can do the same thing, especially since you're more than a week out. Sorry about that, good luck.

Ditto for me!! It is the adhesive from the bigger bandages over the steri-strips. I called my doctor and he said to have the 4 laprascopic area steri's stay on for a week and the longer one to keep on as long as possible. I used baby oil on a cotton ball to get all excess adhesive off. Good luck!!

This happened to me after my surgery. I had stitches but the doctor put tape over them so the knots wouldn't catch on my clothes and pull. Well, I guess I was allergic to the tape and it made huge welts over the incisions and they itched like crazy. The ONLY thing I found to help stop the itch was Bandaide brand anti itch gel. It is for insect bites I think but it has menthol in it and it was the only thing that kept me from scratching. Not even benedryl cream worked.

I was having an allergic reaction to the tape too. I have a prescription steroid cream called clobetsazol that helped the rash heal quickly. I tend to get rashes that heal slowly, so I use that cream a lot, mostly on my fingers where I get cracks and blisters for some reason. That cream helps a lot.

Thanks for all the replies, I have taken the steri strips off and it is starting to feel better. I have a lot of little red bumps ll over the place, but the itching has really eased up a lot.

Thanks again,

Me too! My skin under the steri-strips burned and the strips stared to lift...good thing they did because I found 2 huge Water blisters under there and a big rash!

My surgeon told me to take the strips off and cover any questionable areas with a bandaid.

Just banded on May 19th  and of course this was not a problem I thought I would have and now I am all worried! :)

I just got on here to see if anyone else was having the same thing because I cant get a hold of my Doc and I don't think my stitches are infected...look more like allergic reactions and itch like crazy! Red all around the stitched areas. I took off all the tape and put on steri-strips but now I'm going to take that off too even though I was only 'Sleved' on the 20th...I can't stand the reaction and I'm going crazy! Just wanted to make sure I wasn't the only one. Strange because my port area is the worst.....? Blistered the worst and that had no tape?:D

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
