What the heck is a "PB" and first fill question...

Recommended Posts

All right, I give. I consider myself pretty smart but I can't figure out what you guys mean when you say, "PB".

Also, I go for my first fill next Wednesday. How many of you felt restriction after your first fill?

Thanks...

Hi Willow,

A PB is a productive burp where you burp up your food while eating. Although every PB I've ever had ended up being a full blown barfing session. The rule is to chew, chew, chew, and eat slowly to prevent PBing. Don't drink while eating your food!

I didn't really feel restriction with my first adjustment. It was after my 3rd adjustment that I could really feel restriction. But everyone is different. Good luck to you!

From another post:

Hi and welcome to the boards. Going thru the process- how exciting! You hang in there with your insurance company.

PB is an acronym for Productive Burp. I can't really help you out with this one as I've never experienced it. But what I understand is it's simply burping and the air that comes up moves the food. But I could be wrong.

Sliming.... now that one I know. I do this frequently. Everyone has this, banded or not. The esophogas produces slime to help move food from the mouth to the stomach...it's a natural occurance. Those banded with restriction....the food moves slower (as a few bites fill the pouch and those other bites...hang out in the esophogas). The build up of this slimy substance is the body's way of helping digest food. It will help it slide thru the band or help bring it back up.

Want to make this clear that sliming is not vomiting. Vomiting involves the stomach and sliming is nothing like vomiting. Of course, you can vomit and slime at the same time.

It's so important to chew well and eat slowly. ... and walk away after a few bites because you may be full and don't realize it yet.

Hope this helps!

So you got the answer to the PB question, so I will answer your 1st fill question. Let's just say I'm on fill #6 going on #7 tomorrow. I do have restriction, but I think maybe I should be just a little tighter, I haven't quite reached that "sweet spot" in restriction land yet. I don't really know many people that have only needed one fill. In fact I only know one person, so it is not impossible. Just remember with good restriction you should be losing 5-10lbs a month.

My slimes and PB's go together. It IS gross, and it hurts like heck. But it shouldn't happen very often or it means you are too tight.

It took me 4 fills to feel any restriction, and 5 to get to my sweet spot.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
