Is Lasagna a good 'Mushy' ?

Recommended Posts

If I mash it up, do you think it passes as a mushy? I'm desparate for a little flavor! :leaving:

i wouldn't eat that as a mushy becuase of the pasta's carbs. Try some salmon, my doc said that is considered mushy. good luck. =)

as stated above, no, but if you are craving that, get some cottage cheese (great protein) and add some spaghetti sauce, maybe a little grated parmesan and mozzarella. either cold or hot, i think it satifies that craving.

I ate spaghetti bolognaise mushed up with a can of tomatoes when I made it for my family! I disagree that its bad - carbs, Protein and vegetables in a good mix. Full of Iron and protein. Lasagne is a bit cheesy and fattening though, but in the tiny quantity you'd eat its not going to do any damage.

One of my favourite meals in the mushy stage was home made spaghetti bolognaise with a meat sauce. I didn't have the cheese on it though, and it's the bechamel sauce in the lasagne that has most of the calories. I probably wouldn't try it as one of the first mushies but as you get to know how your tolerances, I think you're okay to try it slowly and carefully and in small quantities.

Lasagne is a trigger food for me, though - it is probably my all time favourite meal, and I find it hard to limit the quantities. If you are a lasagne nut like me, you might want to think about that aspect of it...

Make a "lasagna" without the noodles. Use fat free cottage, ricotta, mozarella and a little parmesan. Pour sauce over it and bake it in a single serve dish. You'll get the flavor and not so many of the calories.

Just a tip. The "no boil" lasagna noodles are very thin. Almost like a crepe. It cuts down on the amount of carbs tremendously. (not to mention the prep time is cut in half) I now like them better than traditional lasgana noodles.

I don't think the Pasta portion would be mushy friendly. Actually, my dietician specifically told me that minced meat (even finely minced) had to wait until soft food stage - although finely flaked salmon or other fish was ok.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
