Do you feel it is "private" enough in here?

Recommended Posts

This is NOT a shot at the other thread at all, I was just curious how comfortable you feel sharing our struggles in here, with it being open, and being google-able?

Hm, haven't thought about it.

I have thought about having my picture up... with just my name though, it seems private enough. It's when we add identifying information where it gets questionable.

Well, I admit I'm not sorry I don't know how to put a picture up. I guess I should remind myself that it's not like OA where people are honor bound to respect your anonymity. It doesn't get much less private than the web! I just hope that anything I post would be of use to others. I can't think of any reason anyone that isn't in the same boat would be interested.

No, I don't think it's private enough. However, when I was researching the Lap Band, this site popped up. I will be forever grateful that happened as I love it here and wouldn't have all of you!

I doubt I'll ever post a pic.

Well its no more or less private then any other place online really. And as long as you don't post identifying information it shouldn't be an issue. Now while I don't mind having a photo or two online, if you not comfortable with that then don't

I feel if I am going to talk on an online forum and the fact that I'm going to be having weight loss surgery anyway...that I shouldn't be very private. I have to be open to everyone I'm talking to and with what I'm learning so why not be open on here too...

Yeah, I don't mind the talking part either. I just wouldn't put my face or any identifying things on here. If I ever do put a pic on here, I'd probably black out my face or something.

Anyway, to each his own!

I'm with you Froggi...opening up about my problems and struggles has helped me immensely, and everyone here is genuinely concerned and helpful. This kind of information is nothing compared to the 40,000,000 credit card numbers stolen last week. AGGH!:whatchutalkingabout

Every place you visit on line has a way of identifying you, even if you don't put down personal information. We all have an ip address, it is as unique as your fingerprint. It is something to think about, but there are measures to protect yourself, just do some research. :tt2:

April I love the pic on your ticker. :whatchutalkingabout

Also that news story happened over 6 months ago. They're just talking about it now. No idea why. I think if you want to have a debit or credit card you should have to use a finger print. :tt2:

i feel pretty comfortable

i have met some great people on here whom i consider my friends and def inspire me

me to keep going and not give up. i also feel on this forum, if i had a bad day or i was upset, or concerned

i could come here and find support and friendship

but it works both ways........in order to get support, i have to give it and i sure hope that i am..(i know i sure try to)

I have not said anything on this forum to disclose my name , address, social security number or place of employment so I figure if anybody is looking for information about me personally they aren't going to get very far.

We do talk about very personal topics on this forum but I cannot see how it hurts anything as long as the above mentioned info isnt disclosed,

I don't have any problem being truthful about my lapband journey. And once you log into internet nothing is really "private".

I don't really care that what I post on LBT isn't private. If some person decides to dig deep enough and discovers I have a lapband then so what? I don't think they will be able to use that information to steal my money, put me in jail or refuse to employ me.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
