Thanks for the encouragement! I am so glad to have found the lap band procedure and feel like this time it will actually be a permanent solution to this constant roller coaster ride!! Want to start enjoying life again. I saw a sign once that I have never forgotten...it read: "Don't give yourself an excuse not to live life." That is what obesity does, it gives you permission to sit on the sidelines and watch the world go by. But NO MORE!!!

I agree 100% !!!

I am living life now - doing things I wouldn't have done a year ago..

With this mindset - you will do good - think good thoughts every day this is the 1st day of the rest of your life - make it work - it is doable..

Indiogirl ~ I was thinking of you this morning on my drive into the office. One more reason your loss and testimony is so inspiring is because I have heard from both my doctor's office and the various medical shows on TV ("Big Medicine" on TLC) that the lapband is not as effective as the full gastric bypass. The last statistics I heard on this show was that the patient should only expect to lose about 40-50% of the excess body weight. Now something is better than nothing but for an obese person - 40% is not quite enough to live a truly healthy life. So whenever I might be discouraged or fall back on "well 40% is standard..." I will know that there are exceptions to the rule and with diligence and hard work, I can be an exception!! So thanks again!! :biggrin2:

I think they are short changing us with those statistics - there is no reason that you can't loose all the weight that you want - the diff is that with bypass even if they eat high fat foods or sweets (some can tolerate them) they don't absorbe the calories where band patients do and yes suppositly banding is slower - but I know a few pple here who have lost 100% of their excess weight in less than a year

Salsa1877 - Wasabubblebutt are the 1st 2 that come to mind.

I just got interviewed for the Palm Springs Life Magazine about my band and Dr. Bobbie - suppose to come out in Aug - So will let you know.

But YES GIRL YOU CAN DO IT !!!!! and those days that are hard - pm me or email me and I will be your sponser ok - giving all this advice helps keep me in check too - so we are both benefiting

Hugs

Thanks - I originally posted this on 5/8/08 the day I got to my original goal of 160 - by 7/14/08 I had lost 105 lbs and and by 10/08 I lost another 7 lbs -

7/17/09 was my 2 yr anniversary - and I am still 138

The band does work if you do the work that goes with it...

Good Luck to you All

Liz - My Dad use to live in Hackensack :0) He's from NY & NJ..

I read your profile - I can tell you this is the best thing I have ever done for me...

I was 52 when banded and as you know we have less years in front of us than what are behind us... I have 3 grandkids that I want to see grow up - GS is 18 -and 2 GD 14 - 5

and for me having major sugery was my ah ha moment

My weight (250) was limiting the quality of my life - 2/07 went on a cruise could barely walk from one end of the ship to the other without being exhausted..

Well 3/09 went on another cruise - this time I took the stairs - hit they gym and went Zip-lining & Repelling and even had a few treats & drinks - I had more energy than my 18 yrs GS..

I feel 10 yrs younger, have tons more energy and the quality of my life has improved ten fold..

It's great to go into a regular store - and pick a pair of size 4 pants and know they are going to fit (was 18/20)

Just know that it's not the magic cure all to our issues with food - it takes work - it take will power - but once you have proper restriction it does help - but it doesn't mean it's easy.

It's all about eating healthy and exercising and with the band you are full on a smaller amount of food... But know that that new full is diff than our thanksgiving full - and that you will be physically full and still want to eat - but you can't..

They are banding our tummies - when really they need to band our heads cuz that's were our problems really are..

Good Luck to you on your Journey...

Mine was great - don't know why I wasted so many year tell myself I was ok fat - I wasted alot of time being fat..

But now I am healthy and enjoying life

Thanks Jeepman!!!

That's why when I got to goal in 5/08 - I posted on the Beginners thread - I want pple to know that it's doable..

Best to you on your jounery - it may be long but let me tell you it's so worth it..

I did this for me - cuz I want to be around to see my Grandkids grow up!!

My goal is to have more energy and be able to keep up with my beautifull 6yr. old daughter and be able to play and do things with her. And also to just be healthy overall and maybe someday wear a size 34 jean.

You can do it - take the words hope and maybe out of your vocabulary and replace them with I WILL...

Indiogirl,

What a wonderful success. Thanks so much for your story. I recieved my band on Jan 3rd of 08 and met my first goal in April of 09 (-139lbs) , and slowly working to my second goal. Second goal to be considered "normal" weight by the BMI calculations.

I am still trying to get used to walking into the NORMAL size section to buy my 6 jeans instead of the full figure to get my old size 26 jeans. It takes such a long time for your mind to catch up with the weight loss. Still working on that.

You are so right that it takes work and will power. ALOT OF IT.... but the band makes it so much easier to stay on track and not BLOW it. You have to have a certain mind set. I was self pay and I made up my mind I WOULD succeed THIS time. I was sooooo restrictive the first 9 months and really watched my diet. I am slowly adding items back into my diet.

Jeepman,

I can only tell you that you CAN do it... if I can... anyone can. IT DOES WORK.

It is not always easy or fun, but set your mind to it and dont let anything or anyone stand in your way.

I can not believe the difference in my energy and my life. I have ALWAYS, ALWAYS been heavy, and I am doing things that I have never done before or would even attempt to do before. I would do it all again in a heartbeat... pay double if I had to.

Best of luck in your journey, let us know how the seminar turns out and how you are doing.

Lois
