I would be very interested in attending and helping with this event. I am also in Houston. I love all the ideas everyone mentioned. Motivational speakers are great, photographers to take new photos, maybe a make over fashion show, cooking demonstrations...

Cher: I think I'm interested. I'm pretty much in the closet so I'm a little nervous about coming out at a convention. But I think that it could be very good to meet other bandsters and meet people in the business of helping obese folks.

I've experienced a nagging plateau and I have read about so many others who have gone through the same thing. I think it is very common with lap banders to lose an intitial 40 - 50 lbs and then to have a really hard time getting anymore weight off. I am sure the reasons can be complicated, but it just seems like such a universal problem I'm thinking there might be some things that can help those of us who have experienced it.

Btw, I have caught "The New You" show several times and it's fun and informative.

Ahh great so glad you enjoy the show.

This is the perfect time to come out of your shell and meet people who are taking the same journey you are. Trust me you are not the only one who feels shy and insecure. I'm going to put a "Challenge" together for everyone to meet 5 new people before the weekend is up and then we can post about all about our experience. So see you will have to take me up on the "Challenge" :))

I will be speaking at the event and plan on having other motivational speakers I.E. successful post-op patients speak and share their journey.

Sounds fun, but I have already scheduled and planned out vacation times for this year....so wouldn't likely make it.

We too have a place in central TX---but have plans to be there in June, and again in November....missing this.....

Maybe it will become an annual event, and I can catch y'all next year!

Whether I can make it depends a lot on exactly when it is and what else is going on in my life at that point. But I am interested, especially if I can combine it with a business trip. :)

I am pre banded, but DH has been banded for a year. We are in Tyler, TX. Keep me posted, I could talk to the surgeons here - they are awesome, and fortunately I work in the office next to them.:)

Sounds like fun! Don't know if I'd be able to go or not but I'd be interested to hear of the details. Money is a big issue for me right now. I'm in CA so it'd be a bit of a jaunt for me. I doubt I'd be banded by then so I wouldn't have to worry about that part of it. Let us know as soon as you have details worked out!

Count me in! I'm in the DFW area and would totally help with anything you need. I'm also a pretty decent speaker, so if you need any of those, count me in. Maybe by that time I will have lost TONS of weight and can be one of those success story people. lol

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
