Sounds all to familiar to me. I was banded 5/21 and last weekend I thought I was dying! All I could think of was "what Have I done!!!".

It does get better. Make sure you eat what you are supposed to, try some mint tea for the gas and get up and get out! Walk all that you can. I was really weak but I realized I was not putting any fuel in the tank so to speak. I pushed an ounce at a time and started to feel better energywise anyway. The gas finally passed :). Don't hide away and feel sorry for yourself. You can do this!

Take care and be well!

Congratulations on taking a step toward wholeness, Metcalf! I have found nonstrenous walking helpful in relieving discomfort! Perhaps you might try sugar free Jello and popsicles. They come in lots of nice flavors. I have also learned to combine my flavors in Protein drinks for a switch. A mixture of chocolate and vanilla is a favorite of mine. I also enjoy soft sugar free pudding in a variety of flavors. :shades_smile:My husband has started making my broth from scratch using fresh vegatables and meat. He then strains off the solids and serves it. YUM! If all else fails, your doc's staff should have plenty of ideas. This board also has loads of ideas too. Just check with your doc to make sure they are OK for you. Lastly, hang in there! According to the oldtimers, the best is yet to come! Great health to you!:)

I was banded on the 28th also. At this point I'm wishing I hadn't had the surgery. I feel very weak, my back and shoulders hurt alot of the time. Right now the only thing(s) that taste good to me are Carnation Instant Breakfast drinks, or instant mashed potatoes. All I want to do is lay around. Can someone help me please?

Hello All, I felt like you drained and tired, until i called my doctor... she said start drinking gatoraide and broths... stop the mashed potatoes, because there is no sugar in those and you need more liquids ... also to everyone suffering constipation.. my doctor recommended colace and benefiber... I add the benefiber to everything.. since I can't drink the 64oz of Water, due to being soo bloated. Good luck to us all on that one..and I hope us all will feel better soon! :)

Thanks so much for your replies. I was definitely feeling very sorry for myself an hour or so ago. Had a good cry and here I am. It is so re-assuring having all of you to converse with.

During my surgery on Tuesday (4 days ago), I also had my gall bladder removed, plus my hietial hernia repaired.

I have just researched Lamasil on the internet. My doc put me on this stuff about 20 days ago (for a nail fungus). I have a suspicion that alot of what I am feeling (naseau, achy- flu like symptoms, lethargic, depression) has to do with the Lamasil! Think I will quit taking it tomorrow!

Was banded 4/30 - so just out in front of you a bit! Feeling a little gas and missing the friendship of food. But a constant reminder that right now it is a no-no is a help. I have felt like I received a huge punch in the stomach - an effective upper cut. Trying to walk but really just want to sleep.< /p>

The stomach pain will subside quickly. It hit me on the second day after surgery but has gotten increasingly better since. I have tried to move around alot and I think this has helped to relieve some of the soreness.

Good Luck!

If you eat one of these things at least once a day, you shouldn't have a problem. i would eat 2oz. of one or the other and I haven't had a problem at all... I was banded on April 16th and feel great!:)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
