Hi there. I'm sort of new here now. I'm definately reading all the threads to learn as much as I can. I'm having my PCP visit tomorrow with all my "papers" from LA Weightloss for the past year. I am pretty confident that they will be OK with my PCP since he encouraged me to go there. So I will have filled my 6 month requirement.

As far as the PB thing. I kinda understand what it is, but does it just happen all of a sudden. Like your at a dinner table and you spew all over the table? Do you have warning that it will happen? Can someone fill me in on exactly what happens.. do you eat to much? to fast? don't chew? all of the above?

You guys rock! What a great support system!

Thanks!

Molly

Here is how it happens for me:

I don't chew well enough, take too big of a bite, or eat too fast (sometimes it is just a food that I can't tolerate)

Then I get a feeling almost like a really bad, huge burp

Then comes the terrible pain between my shoulder blades and in my chest along with the overproduction of saliva. It is then that I get up and go to the bathroom. I just lean over and the food sort of falls out and then I instantly feel better. It isn't really like throwing up (for me anyway). There is no retching or heaving. Hope this helps!

Thanks.. It's really the part that is freaking me out the most. I'm already trying to learn to eat slowly and chew. For alot of my life I had to inhale my food at lunch and set up a very bad pattern. It's very hard for me to slow down take little bites and chew, chew and chew again. I'm also not the most patient person in the world. I hope practice will help.

It doesn't come without warning. It is much more controllable than regular vomiting. I have "put off" a PB episode for about 20 minutes when I was riding in a car, although that's unusual.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
