Need some reassurance pretty please

Recommended Posts

Hi all!! I just had my third fill today which brings me to 5 cc's in a 10 or 12 cc band. I guess I just want to get my head around this whole band thing. We went to Disney World last week and I let go. I ate whatever I wanted and I could, no problem. I did not gain anything (I was surprised) but I did not lose anything either. I really have not lost anything since my last fill. I am regularly exercising and I am back to eating better. I guess I just want reassurance that this band really works. Am I crazy for asking this now???? I do not know if this fill will work but I went so long between fills (about 5 weeks) that I got a little discouraged. On a brighter note I did find a WONDERFUL doctor that is 2 hours closer to home that will do my fills. He was really nice as was his staff. I just need some reassurance that this will work down the road. I have lost quite a bit of weight, just haven't seen the scales move in about 4 weeks. Thanks!!

You are doing great and the band will work if we work with it. The same thing happens to me when I eat bad foods. I don't gain but I don't lose. We must make better choices. I've recently started counting calories so that I know exactly what is going into my body. I also bought a BodyBugg so that I know how many calories I am burning. I've increased my exercise and bought sessions with a personal trainer. I consider the lap band a drastic step in my weight loss journey and I am going to use it the way it was intended. If I don't then I wasted $12,900.

We can do this but it will take some hard work. It sounds like you have things under control and I'm sure the pounds will start melting away soon.

I have the 14 cc band and for me to get to good restriction I'm almost at 10 cc. Around 5cc and I could eat whatever. The tighter you become the more work the band will do. Right now you probably feel that your doing 95% of the work and the band only 5%. Now that I'm in the sweet spot, the band is probably doing more than 50% of the work.

Still need to make better choices, but many of those choices are because I will end up getting sick if I don't!

Up until just a few weeks ago with this last fill, I felt the same way as you do. I still haven't lost much in the past week or two, but I feel that it's actually working.

If you want reassurance that the band works, seriously, just go to the Before & After thread. What more reassurance could anyone give you?

I was also banded in Dec and have a 12 cc band - I have had 4 fills and am at about 6cc.....-before the 4th fill, I was able to eat an entire horse. Now, I am down to one hindquarter.

It will work, you will see! I agree, go to the before and afters and you will see!

It sounds like your doing well, just a little down after vacation? That is how I got, I knew that I didn't do as well as I could have, so when I got home I was bummed out. The beauty of the band is that even if you messed up and feel to lose, you can get it adjusted and get back on track!

did you ever go on vacation before and NOT gain? Not me? So I would think you're band is working. It's not just for us to lose weight but to help us maintain... and you did! It's working!

There are so many ups and downs with this thing. Not weight, but like yeah it's working, boo, I have to be more diligent, yeah it's working, boo chips are so easy to eat!

You get my point I hope. This is your first down on the ride...but really look at the overall trend of your weight loss, because you are in it for the long haul. There are bound to be a few frustrations.

You'll be losing again very soon.

Three weeks ago, I was in your shoes. I'd had three fills, and could eat at least a cup of food at each meal. The worst is I had gone 8 weeks without any weight loss. Then, all of a sudden, I started losing again. I've lost 5 pounds in the past 2 1/2 weeks. And I hit the 60 pound mark. I'm thrilled. Everyone on this board says, just be patient, and they're right. I'm not even at full restriction yet, and this is ALL GOOD.

Before being banded, my family and I went to Disney World - my husband and I each gained 8 pounds. We had the food plan and it was just way too much food that was really good. It took 2 weeks to take off all the weight we gained. So if you went to Disney World and didn't gain weight, I am impressed! I am going to get my third fill next week, I still don't have much restriction and have only been losing about a pound a week lately. I'm not complaining, though!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
