Hey thinking-

I went for my second fill today and DR.R didn't do my fill the blonde lady did [i think shes russian?] anywho- she was AMAZING! she got it on the first try and she was so delicate. I told her how bad Dr.R was at filling me and she said she will do mine from now on. So needless to say there was NO pain. I had zero restriction the first fill, which was 4 ccs. I got 2 more ccs for a total of 6 so we will see how my restriction is. Ive eaten Soup today and could eat it ok and had nice restriction/felt full. I had not lost weight since my last fill [the no restriction and hurt knee was not helping] but atleast i didn't gain. Im really excited for this second fill and seeing how it will work with my everyday eating after this post liquid fill stage.

I NEED to make it to the brigham meeting. I live a 5 minute walk from there so its the easiest for me to go to. I also think that going to the meeting will give me the extra nudge i need to keep this going!

sorry I have been MIA--last semester of undergrad school/applying to grad school is taking up soo much time!

ps. also Dr.R was late again. My appointment was at 815 am and i didnt see him until 850. Im glad the other dr did my fill at 830 so i wasn't waiting with anxiety for Dr.R

good luck to all

I'm so glad you decided to go! I think you'll realize that you really wanted someone to say that to you, or you wouldn't have put it out here for us. Wasn't trying to be mean, just supportive and I hope it came off that way.

How was your fill? How did it feel? Do you feel any different?

Thanks for the push. I know I NEEDED to go but like you said and I totally knew it, I was making excuses. I read my post again the next day and realized how stupid I sounded.LOL So THANK YOU!!

It went smoothly, it pinched but it was so fast I didn't mind it. No I don't feel any different, except now I get this little pain in my stomach area that wasn't there before. I'm on liquids for one more day and I'll do soft stuff tomorrow or maybe even tonight. So we shall see.

Hi K8, glad it went better for you this time. Dr. R did my fill on Monday and it went great, funny how everyone is different. Then again, I think I could even do my own fill.. LOL I can totally feel my whole port and even see it sometimes, so I'm hoping it will never be a problem for me. I'm at 4 cc's now, so we'll see )

Jay, I've not met you yet, but I hope you will not give up on you. I too was eating slider foods (as they are called apparently) to slow down my weight loss, due to my age, and suddenly find as the weight fell off, my age began to show. Slowing it up initially actually helped my skin elasticity. I have been told a bounce mini-trampoline can help the skin shape up, along with the joints. So I might get one for that reason alone if no other.

If you need to look inward, take a look at any reason why you would not want to lose. I found I am no longer invisible to the living world, of which I was not a part for around one decade of my life. Being in the light, where people take note of you, can be very uncomfortable, to say the least. I am trying to find the joy in it. I am fortunate to be around so many warm and loving friends, and their physical presence, hugging and kissing me, and loving me for the individual I am, has been healing for me, and they are only being normal loving people. I rejected normal and loving for so many years and retreated into myself. So that I would not have to explain what I was doing to myself, by giving up and letting my appetite control me.

Are you seeing a counselor? Are you comfortable with that route? I have to say that 7 year of it, lead me to where I am now, to the point I could, with healthy mind and hopeful heart, reach out to get the band my PCP really wanted for me since 2003. and which I rejected all of these years. I was afraid to die on the table, when I was really afraid to let go of a living death and a prison.

Take Care Jay, and anyone else ready to give up. And you might want to consider, if the band is not working, after a reasonable time, then a bypass, or sleeve, could be the way to a new life.

Hi Everyone,

Sorry it's been some time since I've posted but I haven't really had anything to talk about. I do now! So, I had my surgery May 13, 2009. I've never had a fill until yesterday! I never needed one - I've lost 56 lbs without a fill. I still lost another 7lbs but I'm eating more for sure so I pushed for the fill.

I did the liquid for 1.5 days, mushies and now I'm back on reg. however, I've noticed about 1-2 hours after I eat I'm getting the worst pain in my stomach and shoulder - so I know it's gas pain. Last night, I thought it might be hunger pain, today I realize it can't be hunger pain - I just ate a little over an hour ago. Does anyone know what it could be? Am I eating to fast and it just takes that long to catch up with me?

I'm confused---though it doesn't take much lately. If you had your fill yesterday, how did you possibly do 1.5 days of liquids? It's supposed to be 48 HOURS after your fill...then mushies. I get that pain at times, too. I think it's from stuff just not going down as fast as other stuff does/did/might. Does it change, depending on what you've eaten? Congrats on all of the weightloss!

Sorry - had my dates wrong..I'm so busy at work, I can't keep things straight. I had the fill on Tues. Lana (Dr. R's asst) told me to do 1 day of liquid (the Protein Shakes kill my stomach), 1 day of mushies and then back on reg. so that is what I did.

No, it doesn't seem to change based on what I eat. Maybe I'll start the process again. liquid-mushy-reg. I had this problem after surgery as well with the Protein shakes..they just tear up my stomach.

I haven't seen a counselor, but I have considered it and would feel awkward, telling my deeper thoughts and feelings to a stranger. I'm not sure I could.

But i am going to try to go to the meetings? There's one Monday right? Did i just make that up?

I thought once you had one procedure done they wouldn't do another? Maybe I made that up too...

In any event thank you for your kind words.

Just wanted to post and say HI. I never believed live would be so busy - not complaining it is all for good things. I have not been to the gym in a while but started again last week and that made me feel great. I was so looking forward to coming to the support meeting this week, but I have pt conferences in school, so I guess I will have to try again for next month.

Otherwise my weight has been staying the same even though I would love to loose another 10 pounds before I call it quits, but I am not stressing, I am just so glad I am where I am today - the band has been the greatest thing for me.

Tova,

2 AM on a school night?! Oh my...I guess you are busy! Hope you're well! I won't be at the meeting until next month, either....and you know how busy December gets. We'll see what happens!

Does anyone know where I can buy Isopure? Just an FYI, there was a $1 off coupon in the Globe for Isopure in the Sunday Globe....

I'm headed in for an unfill today. Was hoping to drop some weight before doing it, but the reality is that I haven't been able to keep down solids for nearly 2 weeks. Can't lose weight by eating ice cream and mashed potatoes....

BUT, I do have to wonder---why didn't anyone suggest Zantac to me the last time I had reflux? This stuff is amazing. It's the only reason I lasted through Aruba without an emergency un-fill!

Anyone at Dr. R's office today? Have a great week! Paige

a good ab exercise is to clench your stomach muscles and release and repeat when you beat the crap out of anyone who talks to you like that.

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
