April/May plastics 08

Recommended Posts

So I went in for my consult on Friday and I didn't get good news. The plastic surgeon that we saw doesn't want to do the surgery because it is going to be VERY EXTENSIVE and he feels that it is too far away from home. He said to do it I would need, MR, the regular horizontal TT incision and then a vertical "T-incision" as well. He said I have NO elasticity left in my skin! He was a very good surgeon and feels that he could do the surgery, but the likelyhood of complications (separated incision, infection, seromas) would just make it too risky to do when we live 3 hours away. Plus he said that with them removing 10-15 pounds of fat the shock to the system could be too great for me to be that far away. So he refered me to some surgeons over here (we don't live in a big city AT ALL!) When I called the 4 that are here on Friday these were the results: 1 said they wouldn't do the surgery because it was too extensive, 1 didn't have a financing program, 1 said they didn't have financing BUT they would try to get it approved through insurance because of my back pain, and the other one didn't answer. The one that didn't answer does use CareCredit and I did get approved for that last night so that is an option. Also, my SIL lives an hour from the original surgeon that I saw so I have a call into him to see if he would do the surgery if we stayed with her for a month. She graciously said that would be just fine. SOOOOOO I still have options. Also with the ability to get financed through CareCredit, I can expand where I look for surgeons and have it done in WA and stay with my brother as well. My problem is that I am running out of time. I have to have the surgery done from the end of June through the first 2 weeks in July. Anytime after that I don't know that I would be ready to go back to work at the end of August.

How exciting!!! I see my Dr. Friday to schedule the surgery. At this time I am hoping for the week of May 20th. I am meeting my Shrinking Violets group the weekend of the 16th-19th. So there is no way to get it done prior to that and be up to the flight and the trip----so immediately following is my hope!!!

Do you have everything set up and ready to go at home??

Hi Kat, not sure exactly what to do at home. Any suggestions? The PS did say that I need a lot of pillows which I have. Other than that I do have soft diet things in the house ie. Soup, yogurt. I was told by my surgeon that you do get more restriction when you have surgery so we'll see. I think I have gained about 7 lbs since my unfill. Just an FYI. Wait until the last minute to have an unfill. I did it 2 weeks early which was a big mistake. I was PBing alot but he took me down .5ccs. So I have a little restriction but not much. I am also hungry every 2-3 hours now. Julie

Other thn having groceries bought up, laundry done, bedding changed at the last minute---those kind of things sounds like you are prepared!

Got plenty of clean, loose fitting items to wear? Maybe an appointment scheduled for a shampoo/blow out----for following, before you are able to shower and do it? Don't know how long your Dr. will have you limited. I have a friend who is a hairdresser, so we always took my Mom in for hers to be done following surgeries!! Makes you feel so much better!

Did your surgeon give you your Rx ahead of time to get filled and have on hand? Maybe make sure you have some crackers or something simple to eat when you take your pills so you don't upset your stomach.

Magazines or a couple of good sounding books on hand?

I was told to use a dining room chair next to the bed, to use to leverage up and down in the bed, back when I was banded-------what an amazing help!!!! Try it!

I cannot wait to begin prepping for this-I want it done already!!

Kat - thanks for the advice I wasn't even really thinking about getting the house ready. Well other then getting the laundry done up and the house cleaned. But I have a couple of daughters to do that stuff :) My oldest is coming home from college that weekend and then the younger is almost 18 so they will keep up with the house and suppers. The chair beside the bed is a good idea. I have a built in hairdresser, my youngest just passed her state boards yesterday, so she's my stylist.

I go 2 weeks from today - yay!

JulieGeraci - April 21

StephC - May 1

TMarie - May 5

Boo Boo Kitty - May 6

TracyinKS - tba

Kat - MAY 20th------I got a date!!!!

I come soooooo close to having it done this coming Wed.!!!! But the only opening he had was an afternoon, and he only does FTT's in the morning, so there is plenty of recovery time....oh well!!! Then his next open date was May 6th, and that was too close to my TX trip he said. So I told him "fine then, as soon after the 19th as you can do it!" His scheduler said "the 20th!" I said "SOLD"!!

While manipulating/playing with my belly flab today he said he thinks he can make me really happy, except I am likely to have small puckers at each end of the incision. He said I have 2 opposite extremes. Lots of excess in the very front, and hanging (gross--YUCK) and then over to the hips----where I have nothing--------it is simply skin over bone...... So he said the transition might not be perfect----but he guaranteed me I will love it compared to now. I will be going to have a total unfill on the 13th---then going to Tx to meet my Shrinking Violet group, coming home on the 19th, and having surgery the 20th!!! One thing about it, my mind will be occupied!! LOL

I am SOOOOO excited!!!

Anyway--wanted to change me from a TBA to a date!!!

YAY KAT!!!! I'm so happy for you! It'll be here before you know it. My ps is the same way with the ftt in the morning only too. That was why I had to wait a little longer then I had wanted to. I guess its bc its a longer surgery and after thinking about it, I really would rather he be "fresh" for me. :)

Well I went out on a limb and told a friend at work that I was having a tt. Shes a member of the club and a real sweetheart, everytime she comes in she gets me to take a break and sit with her. She knew last fall that I had went in for my initial appt so I said just between you and me... and I'm sure she'll keep it that way. I told her I had told my "bosses" that it was female surgery and being the dumb men that they are they never bothered to ask what kind of female surgery. She said good they don't need to know.

I am in my bathrobe ready to hit the surgical center in about 20 minutes. I feel really good this a.m. I took 2 Valium to help my nerves. Haven't peed much this a.m. which is the typical sign of nerves! I'll post again when I'm feeling up to it. My only fear at this point is just that my pain will be under control so wish me luck. 2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
