Hi from Wisconsin!(moving to AZ this summer.)

Recommended Posts

I am starting the process to have a LAP-BAND procedure at UW-Health, UW-Madison, WI, USA. I have read what I can on the internet and heard about this forum. I am excited and nervous. So far, from the discussion board I am on, I have mostly heard about the experiences of those who have had the gastric bypass so I am eager to read all of your posts! :crying:

First of all, smart girl to move to warmer climate. I am from eastern Wisconsin. You will find a ton of info here on the lap band and lots of support as the people are great. Any questions, just ask someone as someone will have an answer for you. Good luck and welcome!

Nice to hear from another Packer Backer...that won't change no matter where I live. I am excited to get on with this surgery.....where did you have yours done?

Oh, that sucks. I did that for a few weeks. Terrible that insurance has more say than what doctors say is good for our health!

Hang in there.

Hi Marcie,

I live in Marinette, WI. Can I move with you to Arizona??? My husband and kids might miss me... Just kidding, but will this winter ever end? Best of luck with the surgery and the move. I was banded 11/2/07 by Dr. Kemmerling in Green Bay. Where in WI are you?

Hi there Marci,

This is my first response on the site. Saw you were moving to AZ and had to say that is where I am from .Be prepared for it to be hot in the summer but absolutely wonderful the rest of the year . You will love it. I am in the process of getting the preliminaries out of the way and hope to have my lap band done in May .

Sure, I will have an extra bedroom in Flagstaff! The LONGEST winter...ugh...ready to be done with it and get out and walk! I am in Eau Claire. How were the first days after the banding for you? I am wondering if I need to get some help or do it alone---I am really stubborn!

Marcie,

I had my surgery on a Friday afternoon and went home the next day. I was off work the following week. I had my husband on the weekend and he took off the Monday also. It's really nice to have someone around. Could you do it yourself? Probably. But everyone reacts differently to surgery. I probably could have cared for myself but I'm glad I didn't have to! I only ended up taking the Tylenol w/ codeine once after I got home. It was more discomfort than pain for me (think WAY too many sit-ups type discomfort). Good luck to ya!

Robin,

Thanks! Exactly the info I wanted....I will get a day or two at my son's house in Madison so I'll be fine. Great!

Thanks again.

I had my 3 hour psych test yesterday in Madison; see the med. psychologist on the 8th, the nutritionist on the 23rd; at UW-Health in Madison, one has to do a 2 week liquid diet before the surgery. The earliest I'd have the LAP-BAND will be in June. I still need to sell my house before moving! I don't see how it will all come together on time, but I am excited, too! It's been a long haul to get to this point. How much longer for you? Any idea?:)

Have no idea how long till the surgery but have had my psych eval and ultrasounds etc. Have to have a sleep apnea test and a EDG all those will be done next week .. Then they will submit it again to my insurance and then the two week pre op diet. So maybe we will be having ours at the same time..

Put out one fire at a time and your new journey will all fall into place .

I love this forum it is so helpful ..

Crossing our fingers that this all goes real fast .

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
