I think you hit it right on the head. You are consuming only liquids. you are not consuming any solids foods right now, so you aren't producing any solid waste.

I remember waking up one day and going to go pee and was like," I have not pooped in forever. What the hell." I had my surgery on 2/25 and i dont think i actually went to do #2 until like a week later. The last time I had eaten solid food was was 7pm the night before my surgery on 2/25. So when i did go, i think i was getting rid of that. ick. I know that is probably Too Much Info, but hell..we are strangers talking about each other's bathroom habits.

Once I was able to go to the full liquids and such, i started going. But still not regular poo. Not diarrhea, but not normal poo. And once you go, it wont be much. Now i am on pureed foods and since I input more solid foods..then guess what?...my outgo lol has increased as well.

however, everyone is difernt. But in my non-professional..but been there, done that..opinion..

..i think you are normal.

i do emphasize to express your concerns to your doc, though.

take care.

If you were on pre surgical liquid diet, and liquids since the surgery, you have nothing in your intestines to pass as solids. The gas you are passing is both the gas from the surgery and gas from the Protein in the liquids.

When you are ready to go though, you will know, because it will hit you like a ton of bricks and you have to practically run to the bathroom.:cheers2:

Hey there,

I was banded 6 days ago and had your same problem for the first few days. The folks at my surgery center recommended Maalox for any backed up issues. I took it for the first few days post-surgery and everything seemed to work itself out by Day 3.

I didn't go for almost 2 weeks following my surgery. It got to the point of being really uncomfortable. My surgeon recommended good old Milk of Magnesia and it really did the trick for me.

I am 3 1/2 weeks post op and I am still having the same problem. I think that our diets are so restricted that it has changed the way our systems normally work. I have had to use Milk of Mag. a couple of times. I am averaging 6-7 days in between BM's. I think when we are able to eat more fresh veggies things will change....I hope. :cheers2:

ha, sorry to be so graphic. I think its just the consistency of what I am eating right now. I had some salmon last night. The portion size should be eqivalent to a deck of playing cards, but I was only able to eat one card. I have no idea why I have alreday gone twice this morning.

Hello, all. I second (or third) the Milk of Mag. shout out! I was banded on 3/12 and didn't have a bm until yesterday, Friday, 21st. I went for my follow-up on the 20th and they told me use the MoM and that did the trick. I've also been throwing in some fresh strawberries and Peanut Butter into my shakes (using the Magic Bullet) and I think that's also making a big difference.

I was banded on 2/22..it was 7 days before I pooped...I tried MOM but it was nasty...so I started diluting prune juice in equal parts & Benefiber is AWESOME...you can mix it in Soups or shakes... Anyway, dont worry it comes with the territory..now I have 1 big BM a day...WOW that is TMI. LOL

There is another thread about the effect of Protein shakes on some of us. I am guaranteed a BM no more than 30 minutes after I start drinking an Ensure Plus. I have no idea what is in it but it works like a charm. Last night was my first without Ensure.

Maybe it will help but then everyone is different.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
