Can your new pouch hold an entire protein shake?

Recommended Posts

i can easily do a whole shake...no problems here. i'm beginning to wonder if they really put a band in me or if i'm some odd mental test subject to see if "thinking" you have a band will work just as well as having the band. hmmmm....

right now if I were to do a whole shake I'd feel miserable and my stomache would be pokin' out alot....at first I couldn't do a sugar free popcicle without any discomfort....took up a whole meal too....no protein....now I can eat one and do a little bit of Protein Shake too....this morning I ate a sugar free Jello snack with some beneprotein in it....still full from it.

I don't have an issue with the shake staying in my pouch. I do have to drink it a bit more slowly. I drink slim fast low carb shakes. A shake is not going to stay in your pouch for very long, I don't think.

I was banded a week ago, and I have not had any problems with drinking my Protein Shakes. I though that something was wrong because a discomfort in my chest area that felt like alot of air was stuck. I called the clinic I go to and they said to drink slower with sips. I did as they instructed and it all went away.

I was just banded 3/25 and I dont have trouble with Protein Shakes. I haven't been putting ice in them though, just skim milk. I do have to drink slower. And with Water, I definitely have to drink very small sips and drink slower, or I get that feeling of air in my chest and the need to have a minor belch.

I would think that your stomach would still be the same size the band goes at the top of your stomach right under your esophgus to slow your eating down, that will allow the food to pass into your stomach slower. Now liquid i would assume would go down normal just as everyone said just as long as you are sipping slow but your stomach is not sectioned off or anything that would cause u to have another pouch or anything..

I found that for the first week (I guess when there was a lot of stomach swelling in the band area) that it took me about an hour to drink a Protein Shake. Now I can manage about 400ml in half an hour. It all really depends on how tight or how swollen the area of your band is.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
