San Diego Bandsters out there?

Recommended Posts

I live in Point Loma and was banded on Feb 5, 2008. (Fat Tuesday!) I am having a great expereince so far. Dr. Muller is my surgeon. Had first 2 cc fill this past Thursday and it definelty restated my weight loss. Can say that it appears I can go a full three hours now without experiencing hunger.

Hi Erin . . . I was banded 12-3 by Dr. Mueller . . . you should come to the support groups the first 2 Mondays . . . and the Fitness Without Walls is kinda cool too . . . great networking places . . . hope you continue to do great! I have 1.5cc in my 10cc band . . . had to cancel my fill appointment on the 13th and am waiting now for 4-3 . . . Good luck! Keep in touch. I'm in Chula Vista.

I went to the informational seminar with Dr. Mueller last wednesday. He seems great and I think I will go with him. Do you have any imput for me about his or his program?

I like Dr. Mueller a lot . . . the only thing to be aware of is he is a bit "stingy" with giving fills. I'm hoping for a bit of a fill on 4-3 - but I'm not sure he'll give it to me. Good luck!

I am going to be banded 4/08/08 by Dr. Mueller. I would love to find some local support or info on groups in the day if anyone knows of any. I can't make the evening ones due to my kids. I like Dr. Mueller so far, but am sorry to here he's stingy with fills. Thanks

I am also going to go with Dr. Mueller for the band. I read the post that says that he is stingy with fills and at first I did not like that, but I thought about it and now think that as long as you are losing why add more and risk an overfill, which to me sounds terrible.

I am just wondering why you chose Dr. Mueller? I went to the informational meeting and he seemed great. We live in such a big city and have so many choices. I'm sure there are other great docs here to, so I am really curious how you settled on him.

My insurance group uses Dr. Callery or Dr. Mueller. I attended both seminars, Dr.Callery's several years ago before lapband was available here or covered. He was great but preferred at that time to do everything open, not lap.I don't know if this is still true. Also I just couldn't commit to GB, I was too scared. Both of them have excellent records, stats, personalities, etc., but I like that Dr. Mueller has alot of laproscopic experience.

I can just about "diddo" sweetone's comments. I really really really liked his stats . . . I think that was the main reason. Also, I didn't get a fill this past week . . . but I've been losing 5 lbs a month and he likes that rate - so I guess I should stop complaining and just work my band more! Dr. Mueller's office is also organizing some walks for the months of April-July (and the staff will be there too I guess). Monique said there are 3 levels of walking - and it's about two miles. So . . . I signed up! Hope to see some of you there!

I would love to lose 5 pounds a month, just like you christasha. I would be very satisfied with that. Imagine the horror of gaining 5 pounds a month!!! That's what many go through pre-band. What a contrast. Five pounds is nice and slow. For me the weight crept up on me throughout the years and although I don't what it to be that slow, I will be happy with losing it over 3 years. I want to savor every pound lost the slow way and enjoy the process. Just a theory, but I also think that it gives your skin more time to adjust and there'll be less saggynes. I also have only told the people that are closest to me that I am planning on getting the Band, so I am hoping that other people will see the weight coming off slow and I can just tell them that I am eating less and exercising. Which is true; it's a half-truth, but I'd rather do that than tell them about the band, which I feel is a personal decision.

Well for all you San Diegeans . . . tonight (4-7) is Dr. Mueller's office support group meeting which is open to anyone. It's both bypass and lapband people . . . but a good group. I don't know the address of it . . . just know where it is behind Mary Birch hospital . . . across from the parking garage - the Rehab building . . . but you could call Dr. Mueller's office for the phone number for information!

At the meeting they said that they would call in about a week. His office contacted me the very next day! You need to call them. Something must have happened. I'll send you a private message with the phone number for Naomi, the person that called me.

Hi San Diegans!

I may be moving to the area VERY soon (waiting on a job offer), so I'll be looking for a fill doc in the area that will take a patient who had surgery elsewhere. Any recommendations?

My new job will be in Carmel Valley and I don't know yet where I'll be living (I imagine someplace near the area), so suggestions are welcome!

I was banded in August 07 in MN.

Thanks!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
