Also banded on 28/2 but still feel awful...

Recommended Posts

I am now 4 days post band but still feel awful. Everything that I go to eat makes me want to throw up so I think it may be because I am not eating enough. How dows everyone else feel, is it just me?

I was banded on 2/25 (Monday). I was back in the hospital for Wed and Thurs because I began throwing up violently. Nothing would stop it. I had ct scans and a lot of other tests. I think it turned out that I was just really sensitive to the band and they ended up unfilling the band and I felt SO much better. These new bands usually have 2-3 ccs of saline in them when they place them. I still feel lots of restriction w/o any fill. Guess it will be a very slow journey for me.

Talk to you dr and keep drinking fluids no matter what. I was surprised at how fast I was getting dehydrated.

Hi Malby,

When you say that everything you "eat" makes you throw up, do you really mean "eat"? Are you eating food already? I was on Clear liquids for the first 5 days and then moved onto full liquids for the next two weeks. If you are eating food, maybe that is the problem. Just wondering. Hope you are feeling better now.

Hi Malby--

I was banded on Feb 27, and I still feel pretty lousy, too. No appetite, forcing myself to stay on top of my liquid intake.

This, too, shall pass!

I got my band on the 29th, and my gout acted up! Anybody else ever have this problem? It hurts worse than the incision sites! Also, I have alot of burning from swallowing air so I am really having to go slow, and burp alot. I haven't been hungry yet, just trying to stay hydrated. Good luck to us all!

Ah Malby,

I know all too well how you feel. I remember day 3 was the worse for me, but keep the faith. If I had to go back and do it all over again I still would.

I was banded on 1/24 and it took me a good 7 days before I felt somewhat normal again. Remember everyone is different though. I know that feeling you're talking about too, it feels like a nauseated hunger? Just remember to stick with your liquids. I often felt better with the warm Soups. I don't know if your doctor allows it or not but mine allowed me to have cream Soups as long as I strained any meat or veggies off. You'll feel better soon.

Good Luck

PS I also know the Water is a biggie. Keep yourself hydrated.

Malby- this will pass. I was miserable for an entire week. If you are unable to tolerate much, just keep up on your hydration. The Protein can wait until you feel better. Don't stress out about it and BEST WISHES!!!

This forum is so great. It makes me feel so much better that you all felt like this too. I feel a bit better today, still cant eat much but I am keeping on top of my hydration so Ifeel a bit better. I thought it was just me and I was wonderign what I had done.

When I say eat, I can have anything that can be sucked through a straw. I dont have to worry about portion size any more as after two spoonfulls I cant eat any more!! not because of restriction just becaus it makes me gag. i am not very good with milk things which doesnt help as almost everything liquid is milk based.

Any ideas for other things, Soup makes me gag at the moment too.

Good news is i have lost 20lb.

Malby, I was banded last Friday, 4 days ago. I feel really strange, too. I feel hungry, then nausea, then I have pain in my upper back??? Might be gas I am thinking but I am not sure. The thought of broth makes me sick. I can have Protein Shakes but those are getting old, too since that was what I ate twice a day on preop. I am really looking forward to next week with thick liquids. I can do so much more with thicker stuff I think. I am missing food and seem a little depressed. Mainly, because I still have to cook for the family and just the smell makes me want a bite. So for today, my goal is to drink plenty of Water and one Protein Shake and maybe some progresso Soup that has been strained. I think it will taste better than plain old broth. Hang in there... this isn't forever and from what people say we will feel better soon!!!:rolleyes2:

Well I am about 12 days out from my reband surgery, I did find out last week that I have since developed a hernia from one of my insicion sites which hurts like @#$! I will have to have another surgery to repair this now but other than the pain I have from this area which is constant I feel pretty ok! the swelling has gone down and I am now able to eat pretty much anything soft, My new band is a 12cc band and it is empty but I have yet to gain any more weight so far I was wondering when I can get my first fill? I do have a po check on thursday to evaluate the hernia and to sched surgery so hopefully I can get a fill and start using this new band!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
