Cubs, I know how you feel. I was always self conscious about working out in front of people, especially men. I finally had to just tell myself it doesn't matter. I'm the only one who will suffer if I don't go. And like mom and your husband said, no one is probably even looking. I took two phys ed classes this semester and one was weight lifting. I was in there with all of these young, cute guys. I just finally sucked it up and did what I needed to do and you know what, they ended up being really nice and respectful. I also gained their respect by playing ultimate frisbee and the like. If I hadn't of done it, I would have missed out. Also, the fire academy cadets are on my campus, so it was a bonus going outside and running behind them! LOL!! I didn't care what they thought because the view was spectacular! :)

I've now begun running 5Ks, yesterday I did 5 1/2 miles. You are my age, so if I can do it, so can you!!! Just start somewhere. You might want to look into the couch potato to 5K (and I'm not insinuating that you are a couch potato, that's just the name of the program :frown:). It lets you build your endurance a little at a time. I could barely do a couple of minutes at a time when I started running again, now I can do 40+. I love running and I miss it if I skip a day or two. I used to dream (literally) about running again, and now I am. If I can help you in any way, please don't hesitate to PM me or leave a message here. Good luck!!

Dear Bea - Thanks so much for all this information. I'm going to research the program you mention above. It sounds great. Couch Potato is just my speed right now!! Thanks again for the support. It helps me so much.

Hi Ladies. Sorry for taking so long to respond. My son has his tonsils removed on Wednesday. The doctor warned me that teenagers can be more difficult than little ones. Yikes - he wasn't kidding!

Congrats to everybody on losing weight and / or inches this month. I officially made it to my end of year goal! I usually weigh every morning, but only track in on Monday's. I'm trying to enjoy this victory before worrying about the next 15 pounds. I find I enjoy the losses, but I keep looking forward - does anybody else do that? I need to figure out a way to be happy with what I've done, while still planning for the future.

Today I'm going to start training for the Couch Potato to 5k program Bea recommended. Thanks again for sharing your details. I won't worry about what the kid next to me is doing, I'll focus on improving myself each day. I have never enjoyed running, but I've been over weight most of my life. So, I'm going in with a positive attitude.

Hope everybody has a great week. Gift wrapping and mailing for me tonight. That should keep me away from the cookies!

Hey All!

Brandy - Congrats on the losses! Excellent, you'll be in Onderland any minute now!!

CC - Congrats on your daughter's wedding! Aren't you glad you did this 8 months ago? I find myself feeling that way a lot! Your pics are gorgeous and I can definately see a difference. Brandy is right, you'll make a beautiful mother of the bride!

Cubs - I'm glad you are going to give the C25K a try. I know quite a few people who have been really successful with it. I'm glad I could help. Who knows? Maybe you'll find that you do really love running after all! You've got a great attitude and I know you'll do well. I finally ran today after....umm, well I can't remember how long. I know 5-6 days for sure! YIKES! Last week I had finals and then I was running crazy all weekend long. I did play a very intense game of Ultimate Ping Pong! LOL!

I'm glad to read everyone is doing well. And cubs, you are not the only one who looks forward immediately after achieving a goal. I couldn't wait to get to Onderland and now that I'm at 194, all I can do is dream of the day I get to 189! :) Although, I have to say I am really enjoying life these days. I want to loose the rest of my weight, but I'm okay right now just enjoying the journey! Hope you all have a great week!!

I am a total online guru. I spend about 10-14 hours a day online depending on how long I am at work per day. I have noticed a HUGE difference in the amount of participation in the lapbandtalk forums. The other forums that others were pushing for is horribly dead.. Did everyone just leave or go somewhere else? I am a super social person and at this point I feel like there isn't much here. I don't want to try and keep something alive that isn't.

I am 200.1 atm and I cant wait to see a 1 as long as its in the 100th spot!

Ok, here is my confession. I have not seen my ex since the day he walked out on me and my girls who were in Elementary school. He left me for the woman who he is currently married. I am hoping and praying that I look 10 times better than she does when I head to Texas for my daughters wedding. I know that is so bad but I hope you all understand!!

Dear CC - You're going to knock his socks off and leave him drooling in the aisle!!!

Dear Brandy - Way to go!! You'll be in onederland in no time. You're doing great.

Dear Bea - Thanks for the additional encouragement. I did the training last night at the gym. Imagine that - nobody even paid attention to me! Way to go on the weight loss. I think we're close to the same end goal. I'm only 5' 3/4", so will just be in the normal BMI range when I meet my goal. I really enjoy weight lifting so I won't be too upset if I happen to gain a few pounds back due to large muscles!!

Dear Mom - I hope you're doing well after your recent fill.

That's not a confession... Were human and competitive. Your gonna look awesome. You will be rolling in confidence and that make you even sexier! Just go in with a go get em you can't bring me down attitude and he won't know what hit him

I don't have anything to report as an update today still stuck at 200. I am gonna wake the house up squealing when I hit 199... I guarantee it.. They are all on alert for it already haha

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
