Calling all April Bandsters!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

My name is Lori, I am Turler's friend from Colorado. I love your thread, you all are a very supportive and very realistic. I had my surgery on 9/9/08, and had my first fill this last Tuesday. He put in 4.6 ml, and boy can I tell the difference. I am thrilled that I am down 32 lbs. since the pre-op diet . I can not thank Turler enough for getting me off my butt to make such a postive change in my life. I agree about the hormones, I am having a TOM that is from hell, no one ever mentions the dangers of losing weight and the hormones trying to figure out what is going on! Have a great night! I look forward to talking to you all soon!

Lori :)

Hi Lori and welcome to LBT and April Avengers! 32 pounds is awesome :frown:

You're doing great. Keep up the good work!

Bea - {{{{{Many Hugs to you}}}}} The scales will move again. DON"T GIVE UP! I'm so impressed with you running 5 miles!!! Here I am panicing that I'm going to have to actually run 100yards in boot camp! Plus, I can't wait to hear what your instructor has to say. Maybe it won't be too bad. Hope its just a little tweaking here or there. Do let us know because we'll probably all jump in and do it with you so atleast you won't have to change alone.

Now on the throwing up...not a good thing! That's what landed me in the hospital with no fill and I don't want that happening to you so if things aren'y better tomorrow, call your Dr.!!!!

Welcome, Welcome, Welcome Lori!!!! Looks like you are doing so good. 32lbs is awesome! Keep it up and we're here whenever you need us!

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

Brandy - you live girl! I actually had wine the other night, 1st time in 5 months and I applaud you for being able to handle a couple glasses. I was doing good to be standing after a few sips!

We have my littlest one's 2nd birthday party with grandparent's this weekend. I can't believe my last little baby is growing up! He actually look more like he's 3 cause he's so big. But that's it for my BIG weekend. Hope everyone has a good one!

WOW no I applaud you for having such small ones and not having more than a few sips! That's joke :smile2: Mine are 13 and 16 so having ones that small would really smack me back to reality!

I have had a fill and didn't feel the initial restriction but a few mornings later - take a swig of coffee and oh man.........I can feel it tighter than ever!! Sometimes it seems the liquids go down harder than the food.........if that makes sense - maybe the volume...............

My only thought is that there is so much air in there - no way to clear it before the liquid hits it which makes it hurt even more..............

Hey - it is a deterrant and I am not complaining......just a constant observation.

Didn't get much exercise in this week and as a result, the scale has stayed the same. I am getting more comments from my husband and a few co-workers - wearing more form fitting tops - which shows off the loss........trying to work on these flabby arms..............UGH......I think that is one quick way to see if someone has been obese - the saggy arms..............sooooooo unattractive.............

Turler - I'm sorry if I am dense but just what is your avatar?? I have looked at it from every direction and simply cannot tell what it is??????

:) This makes me laugh! So many people have asked me that! My avatar is a Pekingnese dog! Her name is Lily. She is so darn cute! The black spot is her "mask"...her eyes, nose and mouth is in there. The lighter part is all her fluffy hair!

I am seriously considering changing it. I've had it a long time and no one knows what it is. I just gotta think of something else to put there....

Brandy - Now I understand the couple of glasses:) 16....I'd be taking in the whole bottle!!! My oldest is 14 and she is definitely a handful. Hormones are on the rampage!

Numbrgrl-thanks for the info....I do hope it gets tighter in a day or two. I know what you're talking about with the liquids too. Last time I was filled I couldn't drink Water only thicker or hot liquids. Don't want to get there again.

Don't worry, the scales will move again. Just be proud that people are noticing!

Had to share that the scales have moved for me and its down again!!! Back to 193 this morning:) Also, I had an older gentleman at the gym ask me about my weight loss yesterday...he works out the same time I do and said he noticed my clothes were getting really baggy!!!!! This was the best compliment because they were actually the size 16s I bought to replace the first pair that were too big.

Well, I'm off to boot camp for the 1st time, say a prayer for me.....will let you know how it goes if I make it;)

Well, I did it. I made it through my first Boot Camp class and LOVED IT! For any of you who get a chance, do it! It is so fast paced and changes every class that things are never the same. Don't get me wrong, it was hard and I was dying to finish but I DID! I can't wait till the next one. Also, the instructor explained the amount of calories you can loose, for her 130lb frame, she looses 400+ calories for each class. For someone weighing more, they loose more. That got me REALLY motivated!

Turler - OH NOW I SEE IT!!!!!! Cutey!! Thanks for clearing that up - I was thinking it was all kinds of bizarre things!!!

Ran my 3 miles in 38.40 minutes today - which felt sooooo good after being light on the exercise earlier this week!!! Man it is such a motivator!!!

About the wine......I asked during my initial consultation if I had to give it up....I wasn't ready to make that commitment!! But my doctor told me NO......and I have enjoyed a glass or two quite frequently and it has not seemed to hinder my loss at all........guess everyone is different. I am glad it is still possible to enjoy life!!

Hi All,

Mom that is great about the boot camp class, where are you taking it at? YMCA? Numbrgirl way to go running those three miles in that time! Turler congratulations, I am so proud of you:rolleyes2:!

I totally agree about the liquid thing. I just got my first fill on Tuesday, and I am seeming to do fine with the food, but if I even take a sip of something why I am eating it is definitely not a comfortable feeling :smile2:! I know that is good because I am not supposed to be drinking and eating anyways- but it just seems odd. It is good to hear others have the same issues. I am just glad that I have yet to have any nausea or vomiting to date. Have a great Sunday!

KIEUL-up early this morning!

I'm taking the Boot camp @ my gym but they offer these classes all over the place. It is such a big success that many cities offer a month of boot camp only and it takes place at different places around that city. I know Atlanta has a ton of them.

Glad your fill is going good so far. Just take it east and do what the Dr says. No drinking during meals...this is hard I know but a killer to your feeling full and that's what the band is for.

Numbrgirl- I just joined the C2K thread. My goal is to start running at some point. I just can't seem to get my confidence up enough to try it. I am SO PROUD OF YOU!!! Keep up the good work!

Mom- I really think I'd like the Boot Camp too. I will have to look for something like that. I live in a small town far, far away from big city civilization, so it may be tough to find one! LOL

Kieul- LORI!!!!!! Glad to see you back! Yes, the drinking with food thing is weird at first. What a strange habit to have to break, huh? You do get used to it, but I'll admit, there are times that I do it. Sometimes, the meal is too dry and I need to wet it down a bit, OR if I've paid for an alcoholic beverage, I will sip on it throughout my meal rather than guzzling it before the food gets there! LOL Hey, that could make for an interesting dinner!

Your signature and avatar have taken shape!

Well everyone...yesterday was my 6 month Bandiversary. I only lost 2 pounds since my big 50 victory. But considering all that's happened this past month, I've decided it's still a step in the right direction and I am feeling good, looking better and working out....all things I couldn't have done without the band.

I love all the support I get here and I love you guys!!!!!!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
