Calling all April Bandsters!!!!

Recommended Posts

 Greetings, All! I am still new at this- just joined this network over the week-end and still learning my way around. After months of getting the paperwork straightened out along with the "just one more test" routine, my lap band surgery is scheduled for two weeks from today! April 22. Yahoo!!! It is great reading about other's experiences. I'm grateful to be able to learn from others. Keep posting the progress and the problems along the journey. Jeanie

Hey, I think if I have to go for one more test I'll just scream.... I have a stress test and fingers crossed that will be the last except for the pre-op testing. Good luck in your weight loss journey and meeting your goals

Ditto, I went to a Doctor's apt everyday last week. Seriously! I am thankful though that they want to be absolutely sure everything is o.k. It would have made my day if I could have combined the doctors apt so not to travel to and from the doctors office everyday. I just hope all tests results are a GO for surgery on Monday.

Guess what...... I should have kept my mouth shut.... I have to now go back for seconds on a sleep study, I have mild sleep apnea. I would rather be safe than sorry. Oh GHEZZZZZ....... That will take my mind off of worrying about the surgery. Are you guys doing a liquid diet and having a meal at dinner time or strickly just liquids? ???

Hi

I start my pre-op diet today. Mine isn't as strict as some I've seen. Pretty much just eating light drinking Protein drinks and one smallish meal per day. I do have certain amounts of Protein & callories to follow, but I can eat as many veggies as I want. I went shopping yesterday and SF Jello and pudding were on sale, so I bought a bunch. I also bought the low fat cottage cheese & yogurt & sliced cheese. I'll have to hide it from my kids who are cheese freaks like me! I did buy them regular yogurt and cheddar cheese to distract them! I haven't told them about my surgery, but I think I might have to now. At least to the 2 older ones (7 & 9yrs) so they understand why they need to stay out of "my" food!

I'm getting excited and starting to think about having a "zip tie" and tube in my belly. Its been hard NOT to buy clothes I find on sale out of habbit. I have to stop myself and say "pretty soon, I won't be able to wear that anyway cuz it will be too BIG." I've only bought a couple of pair of cheap sweat pants for the recovery period.

I'm rambeling on......but I only have here to do it!

A zip tie!!!! ;) I Love It!! Now that is funny!!! I hadnt thought about it that way but its pretty much true! With a little engineering it could be made owner adjustable!!

Yeah, it kinda looks like one! Thats how I described it to the one friend I told about my surgery. She made some comment later about "dieting the right way" without something "foreign" in my body." I don't think she meant anything by it, although I know she is not exactly "rallying" behind me.

You've lost 31 lbs already!! Wow!

I know exactly what you mean. People who havent had weight problems all their lives and done diet after diet just dont understand. They think it just a simple matter of eating less.... they just dont understand. Im very fortunate that everyone I have told about my surgery has been very very supportive.

TO DSK. I have a question, have you lost 31 lbs since surgery date? i'm just unsure how much weight to expect to loose right off the bat. i'm sure i'll find out tomorrow at my pre-op appt, but i've got sooo many curious questions!

The 31 is actually from the presurgery visit with the doc in late March. I lost 6 between that visit and the day of surgery. So since surgery, Ive lost 25. How much you lose post surgery is very likely to depend on what diet you have after surgery (mine is 100% liquid for the first 3 weeks per the doc) and how much exercise you get (Im walking about a mile per day). Im not certain if my results are typical or not but I am certainly pleased. Doc told me that the liquid diet will drop the pounds and so far... he was absolutely right. The amazing part is that im not really hungry even though im taking in only around 800 calories per day!!! ;)

Just got back from my first post op follow up appointment - 9 lbs gone since surgery date! I lost a few pounds somehow by accident between my pre-op screening and day of surgery (1 week) so I'm down a total of 12 lbs. It's a good start and we'll see what happens once I'm off liquids.

Cheers!

My day is April 21. I had my pre op and all went well. I have no special diet to follow just to not gain any weight and the day before to eat light and not late at night. I am so excited I keep ripping out pages from magazines of all the clothes I can not wait to wear!!!

Was banded on Monday the 7th and have been doing awesome since. Starting last night I was getting this pain in my breastbone area that would travel up my breatbone (sternum) and up my neck and sometimes across my chest on the left when i took a deep breath. Wasnt bad at first but by this morning it got worse and scared the pants off of me. I called the doctors office and he said to go to the ER and he would meet me there to get a Spiral CT and a VQ scan done to make sure I didnt have a clot in my lung. Now that scared the hell out of me. Thank God my lungs were clear and my EKG was good and he said the chest cavity looked great and the band was where it should be and no air in there and all my blood work was good. He told me that my esophagus was probably just having spasms from the surgery and the diapram was sore and having spasms. Made me breathe a sigh of relief. Told me to go home and relax and call the office on Monday with and Update. Glad I didnt just let it go and called them..and I am glad it is nothing.^_^

I had my band surgery on April 2nd with Dr. LePort in Fountain Valley,CA. I am on the second stage already, enjoying my pureed foods. But I am really looking forward to next Wednesday when I get to eat some REAL food again. I have so missed chewing! Anyone have ideas on pureed foods that you found? The best for me so far is homemade applesauce made with splenda and a chinnamon stick. YUM! Good luck to all!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
