March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

Hey all.

So there's a bunch of us in this group, all split up into our different banding days. I was thinking that it might be a good idea to have one master thread as we move through the month, in which all of us could post as we go, from the pioneers going on March 1st to the finalists on March 31st.

I'd love to talk about our anticipation and any worries as we approach our banding date, for people to talk about exactly what happened from the moment they walked into the hospital door until the second they walked out, about how recovery is going, about weight loss and plateaus, about non-scale victories and challenges.

I was thinking that if we all contribute to one thread, it'll form a more substantial channel for information and support. At the moment, I was thinking that we might be too spread out into individual date, and that a central thread would be a really good backbone for the group, in addition to the date-specific threads.

What do you think?

Fenton

Fenton - Wonder if recording everything you eat on www.thedailyplate.com is as good as actually writing it down. There is still that visual effect. :confused2:

I think it's the same......the bottom line is keeping track so you know exactly what your intake/output is.....I've been lax about journaling lately....need to get back on the ball!

Had my first PB last night. It was not a nice experience at all. I ate a couple of bites (literally) of my sons steak when I was cleaning up the dinner plates. I had no trouble at the time. about 3 hours later I tried to drink something and it did not feel right. Made me queesy. After I put the kids to bed I felt like I had a golf ball in my chest kept slimiing then got HUGE hic-ups. I was so relieved when I finally spit out that bit of steak that must not have been chewed well enough. Yuck! The hic-ups remained and I had to got o bed with them, but thankfully did not wake up with them.

Slow down and chew-chew-chew.

Yesterday on Good Morning America they talked about the study. It said that you can even text yourself to keep track. It's not the way you get it written down, but the fact that you are accountable for what you put in your mouth. I have found that when I'm away from the computer and don't log my intake online as I go I tend to not log everything. When I do that I definitely get a distorted view of what I've eaten. I think keeping a pad to write on during the day would be a big help if you can't log it as you go.

As far as carbs go, I find that breads and pastas are the only thing that give me real restriction. I can eat as much chicken, fish and beef as I want. I'm still looking for that sweet spot.

most definitely, writing what I eat down is so important. even if I am not near my computer for TheDailyPlate site I will lof on a spreadsheet or just a pad of paper. being accountable for what you put into your mouth is up to you and I do find that actually seeing it in writing is the best "kick in th pants" I can see. And if I see I have had trouble with losing i can go back and see whay I ahd that week before and hopefully be able to see my errors in judgement!!!!

THis week I did not lose at all. Stayed the dame as last weeks weigh in. but this is the first time since surgery, 3/19/08, that I have not lost anything. So glad to know I am going in for a fill tomorrow..

Christine, I feel your pain, chew chew chew is so hard to do. That is my biggest challenge. When it happens it is just a reminder to us all we can't do that anymore (thank goodness)

Fenton and Harley...yes logging in every day is a great idea. Even days that I wasn't really "good" I felt better documenting because the damage wasn't as bad as I made it out to be. I really try to document every day. It also breaks down those carbs/fats/proteins (as you probably know) as I am always concerned with getting enough Proteins.

I went for my 5th fill yesterday and can honestly say I am where I want to be. I am full...really full with small amounts of food. No cravings and feel much more in control. I now have lost 30 lbs..still slow but steady.

Fenton...as soon as I finish the book I'm reading I can't wait to get into your's....and soon you will be hitting your 100 mark...that is so exciting...how you do it without a fill is amazing. Are you fearful of the fills or just don't want them. I think's its unusual that people don'e get fills....

Stay in air conditioning today

sharon:)

I log everything as well even my excercise. It keeps me honest,I track everything that goes into my mouth.I am well behaved most days.I use my fitness pal.I print out daily and will take them with me when I go to the clinic.I know I am staying within cals but I can eat way to much food except after a fill.

Victoria's Secret has some killer sales right now!!

Hi all, it's been a while! And boy do I have some catching up to do.

I am just returning from a long week and a half in Massachusetts.. After a long winter and 2 harsh respiratory diagnosis of Pulmonary Fibrosis and Alpha One Protein Deficiency, my Nana suddenly came down with Staph Pneumonia last Monday. I drove my Mom down to be there for her Mom and family. It was a blessing that my Nana was able to remain alert until her final moments, and share with us that she was comfortable, and unable to fight any longer. She told us "it's time for me to go". My Nana passed away early Sunday morning with her 5 children and 8 of 13 grandchildren by her side. How tragic yet beautiful at the same time... To say the least I have been dealing with a whirl wind of emotions since last week.

As usual the pans of casseroles and sweets came rolling in.. For the last 10 days I have had nothing but bad hospital food and sweets to suppress my hunger.. and emotions. Until now I never thought I was an emotional eater.. Boy did I have myself fooled:(

I got in late last night from Boston to discover I have gained 3lbs, and am no longer in onderland. Ugh.

I have big regrets on how I handled my eating in the past few days, and am trying to get past it so I can move on in the right direction. It is so hard not to beat myself up for it. I just can't seem to let it go.. I just don't know where to start. This morning I wanted to start out fresh, and get back on track. I can't believe how hard it is?!

I am not going to move my ticker up 3lbs, as it breaks my heart to do so. Hopefully the 198lb on there will be accurate in a few days as I get back into the groove of things.

Thanks all for hearing me out.. What an interesting journey this has become!
