March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

Recommended Posts

Hi, Shamrocks! That is some awesome willpower against the donuts!

Thanks to all who've been posting sample menus that have been helping you with your weight loss. And Fenton, it's great having you back -- this thread is more lively with you here and we need that! But when will you get that ticker fixed so we can witness and cheer on your success?

I had a fill over a week ago that was too much, but I was trying to work through it staying on liquids and mushies longer. But alas, two pieces of sashimi chewed in tiny bites did me in. I ended up throwing it all back up and was then so swollen, I couldn't swallow spit and was having serious pains radiating up through the band. Back to the doctor for an unfill and xray, and once again, my band has slipped so all the saline was taken out in order to let me heal. :crying:

I should be able to start refilling the band next week, but my DH wants me to wait an extra week so I can "enjoy" all the Thanksgiving foods. I'd rather have my mushies that day (mashed cauliflower w/ Boursin cheese, pumpkin pie w/out crust, etc) and have leftover turkey and whatnot over that weekend rather than be without any fill at all, overeat, be overstuffed and feel bad. That's my plan and I'm sticking to it! :smile2:

Tess I know that with my hubby I had to make alternate suggestions of stuff that would make me happy(and thus him happy). "Wow that is soooo sweet of you to think of me while you were getting donuts for the kids. Babe if there is a next time please how about a coffee with that great sugar free hazelnut Syrup? " If he still does it-- float it in the toilet for him to find with a note stuck to the rim- "Thanks but if I ate this I would just puke it up anyways".:)

Hey Amanda...It was great meeting you yesterday. I have scheduled treadmill time for myself at 7PM. I will do this!

Tess, I LOVE Amanda's suggestion of floating the donut...gues he would have to get the point. My DH does something similar....he buys me my favorite pre-band sundae. He's not home very often, so not a huge problem, and it also has hot fudge and chocolate sends me spiraling into pain for days, so now there is little temptation. BTW donuts make me puke so no temptation there either.

Christine

Hmmmm!!!! I like floating the donut idea too!!! I don't think he intentionally sets out to sabotage, but... our relationship was definitely centered around food. I think he learned early on that food is comfort and my best friend. (We've been together over 20 years) It's just that I am trying to make changes and he is not concerned by it enough to put thought into it.

Thanks for the support!

I think the important thing is to be honest with him about how you feel. That you love him, and he doesn't need to bring "treats" to make you love him. And that you need him to help you be the best that you can be, for him and for yourself. And make alternate suggestions. Like flowers instead of donuts, or something.

Hey, can I ask a question? I've been having a lot of trouble logging on to this site - I couldn't get on for most of yesterday and the day before, but others seemed to be able to post. Am I the only one in this? It seemed to happen whether I was at home or at work, so I assumed it was a problem with the site.

I weigh in today, and am nervous. I've been back on the wagon for 5 days, one of which was my 18 course eatapalooza at Momofuku-Ko. My intake has been low - possibly too low, definitely under 1200 a day - and I've consistently exercised and done yoga. But either way I'm scared of the number - I don't want to be in the 4's again, that would really sting.

Still, whatever it is, that's what it is. If I'm in the 4's, so be it.

My online crush continues strong. She doesn't live in or near NYC; we're meeting for the first time in mid-February in Colorado. So I have three months to make me the best I can be, which is hugely motivating. Yesterday I got new batteries put into my pedometer.

She's incredibly supportive, but I'm of course worried about the ravages that gaining and losing such a huge amount of weight will place on my body. I'll need PS down the road, but before, during and after that happens, I worry my self-loathing about how I look will affect us.

I guess it definitely will, because it's something we'll either overcome or fail to overcome if we go forward.

So blah blah blah. This is what happens when I fall asleep at 2:15 AM after yakking away on the phone for hours, and then wake up at 6:15AM!

Jonathan - I am going to sit down and touch base with DH, I think he realized yesterday that he didn't, make a wise choice for me. I thought I would wait a day, so it wouldn't seem like an attack, or overly critical. We definitely need to talk, and I need to be very clear about what I need from him. (again)

As far as you weighing in today, yes, it is what it is. However, I will tell you that reading your post, you are definitely in a different place mentally. A better place than you have been in lately. Everyone needs someone in there corner, and a goal.... you now have both and I believe you will be on your way to losing those pounds again. You sound much more positive, and its good to hear!

Have a great day, and don't sweat the new starting number...now you'll know where you are!!!!!

ps I've been able to log on LBT ok lately. Sometimes it bogged down, but ok for me recently.

love the idea of floating the donut!!!!!

Jonathan - congrats on the online gal friend. Hope the meeting is great. Think of the flying as a smaller individual!!

AS far as body image. I am so scared of what I now look like with the saggy skin and being in a relationship scares me,,, possibility of being naked. just gonna be positive and look for the god. All I need is someone to be in a relationship with lol

Boy it's so good to see some activity on this site again. I had started checking in every few days instead of several times a day since it had slowed down. Welcome back Fenton. It's so good to hear about your adventures again. Everyone is doing so well. I am doing pretty well too. I go through periods where the band is really tight and then it loosens again. I don't usually eat any Breakfast since I am really tight in the morning. By lunchtime I am usually pretty hungry but I still have to watch what I eat since I could still be a bit tight. My husband sometimes says I should get an unfill but I can eat and I am only losing about a pound a week so I think I am not overfilled. I just tend to forget I am banded if I am talking when I eat and take too big a bite or don't chew it enough and then IT happens. You all know what I am talking about. I have determined that spaghetti isn't my friend. I have tried it twice in the last month and it's too hard to chew it enough and I got stuck both times. I plan to eat small amounts of everything I want on Thanksgiving.

I have been having a devil of a time getting on lately. I was just going to ask the same question. I got really scared the first time when I got a message that the site did not exist. I had a wave of sadness thinking I would never know how to contact anyone again. Well except Jonathan who has a web site(even though the blog seems to be down now too).

I just attended a get together in Philadelphia a few weeks back. It had participants from Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, New York and Pennsylvania

I think getting together in NYC would be a great time. I am going to seroiously consider that weekend.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
