March 31st!

Recommended Posts

checkin in with everyone - how are you all doing? I've been trying lots - cottage cheese, scrambled egg, tuna, oatmeal - all have posed no problem at all. I'm delighted. Biggest problem is still trying to get in all the Protein. Ooops, almost forgot dietician recommended Peanut Butter and banana ......what at treat

Tonight I had cottage cheese with a few tablespoons of marinara and a sprinkle of parmeasen cheese...nuked for about a minute and it tasted just like lasagne without the noodles...yummy

thanks I'm gonna try it! Another tip: I was told I could have saltines and I seem to miss "munching".....so I had a couple handfuls of oyster crackers (ate them one by one) .....seemed like a real treat. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm sort of trying stuff in small doses. I actually had a Tomato (cut up really really small) with my cottage cheese at lunch. I've had no negative affects from anything I have tried. Hope all is going well with the rest of you. My doc is pretty conservative about my weight loss - his expectation for me is 1-2 lbs per week. So I'm going to way myself on Monday. I'm really motivated by all this...as soon as the weather gets better I plan on walking.

Have a nice weekend.

so i'm just wondering how all of yall are feeling and if you're excercising regularly? i know i should be, but i'm not. also, i'm wondering what everyone at this stage is doing for exercise. just walking, or anything more strenuous. i'd really like to go back to my yoga class, but i just don't think it would be a good idea yet, seeing as something pops near my port everytime i bend down without holding my side.

has anyone had a fill yet? i'm going in for my first one on thursday, and i'm just wondering if anyone who already got one actually got restriction from their first fill.

ok, hope everyone is doing great!

I'm not excercising yet - but plan on walking as soon as the weather gets better. I feel fine, been trying different things when I can. Nothing has bothered me so far. I'm not getting my first fill till 5/12 - I guess my doc waits like 6 weeks.

I'm really trying NOT to eat too much - tonite dinner was 6 saltines and some liver sausage (for the protein); lunch was chicken veg soup; snack = Instant Breakfast and breakfast oatmeal.... about 3 bottles of Water - what are others eating.

I have walked a few times but not as much as I should...still working on getting all my energy back. ( or at least that is what I keep telling myself.)

I usually do a yogurt for bkfast and have been eating cottage cheese with a variety of things for lunch. I made my own guacamole with half an avacado and a touch of salsa and it was pure heaven! I have had scrambled eggs a few times and actually pureed some pot roast and carrots the other night and it was great.

I have had no trouble with anything and have been eatting probably a cup of food total for lunch and dinner

I don't think I have much restriction but haven't really pushed the issue.

I travel on business next week so that will be a test!

First fill is May 8th.

Good Luck!! I drink and eas vanilla Protein Shake in the am 46 gm Protein and 8oz skim milk with ice. ,Lunch: A tuna cup with a few crackers or a metrx protein bar(feels like I am cheating, it is so good and goes down well), sole or tilapia or soft eggs for dinner. Soups, salad goes down easily well chewed and chicken well chewed. If you're on mushies try mashed califlower with a little butter. Tastes like mashed potatoes and goes down easier.

didn't know we could have salads! I'm going to the dietician next Wednesday. I think I can basically try anything as long as I chew .... I'm trying so hard to not eat alot - I also don't feel like I have any restriction.

I think after the first fill things will be different. I'm really happy to have done this and am totally committed to losing weight - I want this to work! and it will!

Roster,

Good luck. Just check with your dietician what they want you to have. I go to olive garden and love the cold salad, but I don't eat anything hard and I chew until pulverized and it is really satisfying. It is basically all Water. Don't forget to fill up on your Proteins first.

had a pouch of ready to eat shrimp today (15 gr protein) added a little cocktail sauce and a few crackers for lunch - it was awesome....Loved it and low in calories, fat, high in Protein

I think this whole thing has to include eating different foods than before....

Congrats on all the exercise - I really haven't been doing anything - guess it's time to start.

I get my first fill 5/12 and sort of looking forward to it. Seems like I can eat anything and I'm afraid I might be eating too much sometimes. Especially when I go out.

Hope to hear from more folks so we can chat about our progress and frustrations (if there are any!)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
