Just banded on 2/15/08

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! My name is Deanna and I received my lap band last Friday (2/15). I need to lose 200 pounds. I am still having alot of pain in my stomach area but not from the incisions- it feels like muscle pain. I am also having difficulty in taking deep breaths from the anesthetic. All in all, I am happy that it is over and am trying my best to adapt to the liquids during the first couple of weeks. This website was recommended by a person that I attended my pre-op class with at Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland, OR. Her surgery was scheduled a few days ahead of mine and hopefully she is doing well. I look forward to learning lots from everyone that has gone through this already. If you have any helpful suggestions please pass them along.

Hi Deanna and welcome to LBT. The "muscle pain" you are feeling is probably from the port. That tends to be where everyone is the sorest for the first week or so. It will get better. I found putting a heating pad on it really helped me a lot.

Congrats on getting the band, we look forward to getting to know you.

Hey Deana, I was also banded on 2/15 here in Jacksonville, FL. I also have problems with deep breaths and a little muscle pain. Im sticking with the Meal Replacement shakes now but...I just do not have any energy. I feel like a sombie. I have my first post op visit on friday, I am planning on stickin with the Meal Replacements until then but Im hoping the Dr will let me get on some soft foods. Its kinda cool though, I have lost 25 lbs in the last month.

I hope everyhting is going well with you and look forward to sharing some of the good and bad experiences with someone in the same boat.

Terri,

I feel better today- not so much pain and breathing better but do still feel weak. I am doing Protein Shakes for Breakfast and dinner but am doing Tomato Soup mixed with milk for lunch and it's really yummy! I am also having a little low sodium V-8 juice and yogurt as Snacks. This was all recommended by the dieticians. It does give me some energy and breaks up the boredom.

We are definitely in the same boat and I look forward to our journey together!

Deanna

Susan,

I will try the heating pad- Thanks for the advice. I look forward to getting to know everyone and am thankful that there is a place where people understand and share.

On day four I was still pretty tender. Give yourself a chance to heal. Don't worry, it gets better every day. I was banded on the 7th (in Jacksonville also) and am completely back to normal.

The weakness will improve as you get more nutrition in your body, especially Protein.

Good luck!

Hi and welcome. It sounds like you are right on track with your recovery. I was banded on 1/10/08,and was pretty sore until week 2 -3. Then it was major improvements after that. I was able to sleep on my stomach again. I was able to sneeze without doubling over in pain. Try to keep moving around as much as possible. It really helps the abdominal muscles recover. Good luck!

Hey Deana,

Today is post op day 9. Im feelin a lot better now. I have just a little pain in the port area and some shoulder gas pain but thats about it. Ive been working on getting some Protein waters in me and Im started on regular foods. (eggs, small bites of ham, fresh tomatoes minus skin) I also still drink a meal replacement a day. I dont know about you but I cant beleive that everything is going so fast, I mean that we have band in us healing, and starting on foods and then in a couple of weeks we will have our first fill and then the process of the band will really take effect. Do you have a local Dr and support system? I have a great group of professionals that I feel very confident in. I hope everything is going well for you. Take Care. Terri

Susan, I also live in jax and am thinking of getting the band. I do not have ins but have good credit so I think I can get financing. I did want to know if you shopped around for price. I saw at the top of this site that they were flashing prices way below I have seen. Do you know what the deal is

Hey Terri,

Good to hear you are doing better. I went back to work this last Monday and am still feeling tired but alot of that is stress from work. I too am experimenting with different foods but I am pureeing them in my mini blender first. I have no pain at all and am walking a little each day. I have lost 15 pounds so far but I need to lose 200 so it will be a long journey for me.

I live an hour and a half from my doctor and there are no support groups locally. I will probably be leaning very heavy on you and others in this forum for that. There is another forum available to us through the hospital but I have not signed up for that one yet. The most important support for me is my husband of 20 yrs who is a huge blessing to me!

Keep in touch with me and let me know how you are doing-

Take Care,

Deanna

Hey Deanna,

Good to hear your doing better. Im doing great but...I can eat pretty much anyhting I try but Im careful. Im staying away from the carbs and heavy Proteins. I will get my first fill on 3/17/08, I am a bit worried about gaining weight back but they did warn me since I took off 18 lbs in 10 days I would probably gain some back. So I guess Im off to the gym on Monday, hopefully that will level me out a bit. I am so excited about this weight loss, my feet & back are feeling better already, Im looking forward to doing alot of fun stuff this summer. Why dont you e-mail me directly at terrimarymartha@bellsouth.net cause I dont check the forum everyday. Take Care. Terri

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
