Anyone getting Banded by Dr Huacuz on 3/28/2008!!
I'm a bit confused..false testimony? It's the 22nd of March and I'm alive and well, sitting in front of my computer and reading about post-surgery stuff. I've worked in the medical system for many years, and am a strong advocate for myself. My husband was with me the whole time. We both agreed that Dr. Huacuz handled himself professionally with us. He has a great bedside manner. I remember his last joke while I was on the operating table just about to fall asleep when he walked in. I said, there you are, he responded, you wondered where I was..'. He answered all my questions to my satisfaction. I have no complications other than trying to forget that Lindt chocolate melts in your mouth. I'd be glad anytime to give a positive recommendation for Dr. Huacuz. Given that every single person who walks through his clinic door has different expectations there are bound to be those who don't like him. And no surgery is without the potential for complications. (when I read the obesityhelp.com web page about their members who died, most were treated by US docs.) I visited my primary care doc upon return to Washington who said my incisions look good and are healing well. I spoke with him about using a Mexican clinic and he had no concerns about it.

Fill too soon?
My doc, Dr. Huacuz, filled me the day after surgery. It surprised me, but he indicated there was no problem with doing this. I'm doing fine, had the surgery on 10 March 08.

24 hours post banding
I thought you had to wait six weeks as well, but the doc said that it was ok to do it right away so the weight loss can begin. It was not a large fill.

Actually I feel fine, I think I might be hungry?

Anyone in Central or Eastern Washington?
I live in Walla Walla and had my band put in about 24 hours ago. My fills will be done by Dr. Heap in Richland. I called his office and was told he does fills only on Monday afternoons. Its the closest, otherwise Spokane.

I Miss Being 'Normal'...Am I alone in this?
Oh yeah, been thinking about much of whats written here this afternoon. Goey pizza, beer...maybe this time is just over. But new times start where that which was scary and unnerving while I was obese is now an option, like taking a swimming class with my daughter.

24 hours post banding
Hey everyone, I'm sitting on the 9th floor of the Westin Hotel in San Diego, finally getting to play on the net. The entire event was uneventful. I'm a bit sore, but doing well. Dr. Huacuz and his team are great, explained everything, answered every question. Having a few pangs of anxiety when thinking about not being able to eat solid food for a while but it passes. Have the rest of the week off of work, we fly back to Walla Walla tomorrow morning. Dr. Huacuz did my first fill last night, I needed only .75cc to get restriction. It was very cool watching the barium drink on the x-ray... Caroline

Negative people with negative feelings
I attended a bariatric support group last week, one of the group members asked me why I was having lap band surgery. I told her that my knees hurt all the time and I can't look at myself in the mirror. The weird thing when I started talking about my procedure I almost started crying. All that self hate and shame .... I spend far too much time pretending that I don't weigh 230 lbs.

Lap band as a tool
my food choices are rather good, I like fruits and vegetables and shy away from junk food. My two year old has never seen a McDonalds , although she has a passion for French fries I need portion control and the lap band is ideal for that. Finally found my airline ticket....

T-2
Starting to pack stuff and put a list together for the trip to San Diego. We bought our daughter her first travel case on wheels, she's trying to cram large books into it. I've been on a roller coaster all day. Is this the right thing to do? Can I handle this? It's good that I have a toddler running about the house to keep my mind off of surgery. If I have to look at another can of Slim Fast I'll throw it out the window. BLAH BLAH BLAH. I'd rather drink crystal light and tea and broth. I will probably write more anxiety ridden posts as we get closer to the date. So please just humor me ......:confused2:

Calories, Fats or both?
Hi all, I'm starting my pre-op diet. Wow...this is rough. I never realized how much I needed food. We went grocery shopping last night, talk about torture. I'm very focused on low calorie food with low fat content, keeping under 1200 calories a day. Progressive Soups are low calorie and low fat, and ease my cravings. Does anyone else eat these? Thanks much.

Protein, my kingdom for good protein
Yeah, I'm moving towards the vegetarian life again. I've started purchasing free range and organic animal products. My spouse and daughter are committed carnivores, we've come to a reconciliation on this matter. moooooooh.
